Summary

Nia Simone McLeod discusses the inevitability of offending others with one's actions and advocates for pursuing personal desires regardless of such reactions, drawing from her own experiences with internet confrontations.

Abstract

In her article, Nia Simone McLeod reflects on the recent online altercations she has encountered due to her opinions. Despite the negative interactions, she emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and not being deterred by the criticism of "internet gangstas." McLeod uses her own experiences to illustrate that it's impossible to please everyone, and she encourages readers to use the 'red X' (close button) if they disagree with her content, rather than engaging in unnecessary arguments. She concludes by reaffirming her commitment to her passions and suggests that the same individuals who confront her online would likely not do so in person.

Opinions

  • McLeod believes that no matter what one does, someone will always be dissatisfied or offended.
  • She asserts that it's futile to change oneself to avoid such reactions and that individuals should pursue their interests and passions without hesitation.
  • The author expresses frustration with people who choose to engage with content they know they will dislike and then react with hostility.
  • McLeod points out the irony of people getting upset over opinions they encounter voluntarily on the internet.
  • She advises her readers to ignore the negativity from confrontational internet users and to continue doing what they love.
  • McLeod hints at the disconnect between online and real-world behavior, suggesting that online aggressors would likely be less confrontational in a face-to-face interaction.

Don’t Let An Internet Gangsta Stop You From Doing You

Author’s Note:

Over the past week, multiple people, that I do not know, have been taking time out of their day to pick fights with me over my opinions and get big mad — through the internet! Through a screen!

My titles and descriptions make it as clear as those transparent electronics from the 2000s as to what my articles are about. I don’t understand why people choose to read articles about opinions they don’t agree with and then get mad at me like I forced you to read it.

The red X is right there boo boo — and it works well! Use it!

Word to the wise: Don’t let these big mad internet gangstas stop you from doing what you love. I promise you they wouldn’t keep that same energy if they saw you walking down the street.
