Scammers scammers are everywhere
Don’t Get Duped by Psychic Hotline Scammers on LinkedIn: Stay Vigilant
These scammers are getting more inventive with their manipulative tactics, too.
I’m a freelancer, always seeking opportunities to increase my income. That is why I do various types of work, such as writing, tarot and psychic readings, and some virtual assistance.
However, I perk up if I get a message on LinkedIn offering me something. Unfortunately, many times, those so-called offers are scams. And I recently had a run-in with another one.
As soon as this scammer started messaging me, my intuition told me to run, but I listened to what they had to say because I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until I see a concrete reason to blow someone off.
This Scammer Went After Me for a Free Tarot Reading
Recently, I started giving free generic tarot readings in a LinkedIn group for that purpose. It was an excellent way to grow those interested in it into my network and gain more subscribers to my Substack newsletter.
It has been working so far, surely but slowly.
However, one was viewing my LinkedIn page and appeared to have a very impressive profile and appeared to own a psychic network.
After my unfortunate dealings with psychic networks, other than the Tarot Bridge, I prefer to stay away from them.
Most of them are exploitative towards their readers and customers as they like them to rack up their credit card bills as they charge by the minute (except for the Tarot Bridge, as they charge by the session and take excellent care of their readers).
These hotlines exploit their readers by giving them a quarter of their earnings, and they expect them to work long hours each day.
This so-called psychic network owner, looking at my profile, contacted me within a few days. It was a matter of time before they would do it, and they wanted to arrange a time to speak with me.
So I did that. Even though I am not crazy about psychic hotlines, I figured I would give this individual a chance.
There may be another good one, like the Tarot Bridge around. Since I am looking for new income opportunities, I figured, “Why not.”
When this individual called, they told me they were highly impressed with my readings in the group and wanted to hire me on their hotline.
I asked questions about how much of a cut I would get and how long I would be expected to work. It all sounded great as I would keep most of it, and there were no limits.
They even said I would get my radio show, as this so-called psychic hotline owner said they have their own and gave me a link to listen to a few.
Hmm, okay, well, that was interesting. This individual said they would want me to do a test reading for them, so I did for about five minutes, and they were impressed.
They said someone else would call me for another test reading before I am officially onboard. I ended the call with, “I am looking forward to doing it.”
However, I got off the call not all that excited. I was suspicious, and my intuition told me that nothing this individual said added up.
I figured I would wait for this other individual to call me for a test reading to start asking hardcore questions about this “opportunity.”
After that, I did not overthink about it. I went on with my day.
Things After That Got Weird
A day after, the so-called psychic network owner messaged me on LinkedIn several times, asking me if the other individual had called me for the test reading. I said no, they did not.
Then they called me and told me it might take a few days to call me because their wait list is long, as they have many other readers ahead of me to hire.
Since they knew this, I asked them why they kept messaging me about it on LinkedIn, and they said they wanted to check in with me anyway in case they did.
That was … weird.
Guess what? They messaged me again the next day, asking me the same thing. I said no and reminded them that I was supposedly on a waitlist before they called — no answer after that.
I don’t know why I did not do this immediately after this individual contacted me, but once and for all, I did some research.
To my credit, I likely did not look into this because I was pretty detached from this so-called opportunity since I have been burned before.
However, since this was getting weird, I figured I would begin digging things up on this “psychic network owner” and their radio show.
I Was Onto Them
This individual has a website that claims they did readings for celebrities (as they mentioned on the phone).
However, I saw nothing about having a network of readers they hired. I also found that they had a radio show on YouTube over a decade ago with about ten subscribers and a few hundred views at best.
Oh, I had so many questions to ask this individual. And I wanted to confront them about the things I found.
Interestingly, they ignored me when I messaged them on LinkedIn to arrange a call to speak to them. I did not say why I wanted to talk to them. I only said I wanted to speak to them.
I tried to call them, and their voicemail immediately came up, which meant they blocked my number.
Maybe they are genuinely psychic because they sensed that I sniffed out their bullshit and was ready to confront them.
However, I finished their ghosting job. I blocked them on LinkedIn and blocked them on all of their social media networks.
I immediately went into the Facebook group for those who worked on those hotlines to warn readers about this individual on LinkedIn.
One individual responded and said they had the same experience with them. So, what was the purpose of them pulling this scam? Was it to get free readings?
Or did they want to get “test readings” from others to see how much “better” they may have been than this individual? Was it all ego-driven?
It was all bizarre. So, nothing was lost except a five-minute reading and a few minutes of my time here and there.
But I think in the future, I will not accept any offers from other psychic hotlines since I am down on them anyway. There is only one I endorse, and that is it.
It is more challenging, but going solo is the only way to succeed in this industry.
