Dear Newcomer Writers,
Don’t Focus on Your Medium Stats
Focus on this instead.

I am one of the new writers on Medium. I have been actively writing for 3 weeks on Medium, and now I have got almost 25 USD from this place. For me, as a student and living in a 3rd world country, that is more than enough. That money can be my source of income while I received income from my parents.
The site is already giving me a lot of lessons, and also lots of emotions that has happened. I have already felt the excitement, sadness, boredness, and many more from this site.
You come to this article because maybe you are the newcomer on this site and want to strategize how to deliver contents that people would enjoy.
Therefore, The article presents you some of my experience while I become a writer on Medium, and I want to give you advice on what things you should be focusing on, and by that, you will get more income from it.
Don’t Check Your Stats Too Much

I know you want to see how much readers that have read your articles, and you want to know how much money you will receive.
I also do this. I’ve always checked my statistics every single hour, even minutes! That’s crazy. I’m spending more time on seeing the statistics rather than research and writing new content.
I have to tell you. That is normal for newcomers. But if you spend more time just for seeing it, you will not deliver your best content, and you can not do more research for your new content.
Therefore, you should care less on your stats.
I do not say that you should not care about the stats. Instead, The stats are still necessary for strategizing what kind of content that your readers enjoy.
If you want to see the stats, you should scheduling it. Probably you can see it at the same time when your earning is updated.
So, Spend less on stats, and spend more on contents.
Quality Above Quantity
A lot of writers give an advise to write content daily. I’m not saying this is true or not for some of you. But this is not suited well for me. Let me give you the examples.

Here are my articles that publish on publication, which is Towards Data Science. They are also getting curated on several topics. As you can see, Not all of those get thousands of viewers and readers.
Those who have thousands of viewers still earn money even the article published a long time ago, but not on below thousand of views as you can see below,

The top 2 articles are above one thousand viewers. Until this time, this article still making a good income, and is not on the others.
Because of that, I realized that you should not write articles daily. You can schedule your day for when to publish the article. It does not have to be daily.
You don’t have to keep writing on a daily schedule. Instead, you have to find your flow and what kind of content that probably makes people interest to read your content.
Therefore, quality is above quantity at this time.
Engage with Other Writers

Medium is also a social media platform, just like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and many more. But it is a different kind of social media because the content on it is your writings, and you can interact with other writers.
The engagement with the other writers is really impacting your earnings and also your presence on it.
On my first week writing on Medium, I really engaged with other readers, on Medium or the Facebook group that consists of writers on Medium. At this time, it is the opportunity to discover people that have the same thought with you.
But because of my topic is about Data Science, probably you will not see any people that engaged so much. Despite that, you should engage with others.
By engaging your presence on Medium and interact, you will get the people that interest with your articles and will follow you because of your content.
Growing on Medium is A Marathon

Here is my last advice for you. Don’t just over proud of your earnings right now. Just be grateful and be humble.
Start making research on your content. Possibly, your research will be a success.
You are growing. It means that you have lots of potentials to explore and to exploit.
Just focusing on your content right now, and you will gain way bigger earnings that is waiting on you.
Therefore, focus on your quality, engage with writers, and check your stats when you need to.
