5 ways to tap into your inner strength

Strength… Give me some strength to handle all that is coming at me…Does this thought come to your mind? A friend shared that with all that is happening in her personal life, her kid’s lives — and the world it’s wearing her down.

Can you relate?

Many of us are feeling the weight of the world on our shoulders and it’s weighing us down. We are trying to cope with what is happening and maybe not in the healthiest fashion.

Maybe you are reacting to situations instead of learning to respond.

Maybe you are someone who feels too much, so you numb yourself. The evening wine, the binge watching, the comfort foods.

I get it — everyone is affected in some way by what is happening in these times. It’s easy to tap into that part of ourselves that is feeling like a victim…

…and when we do, it’s an opportunity to tap into your inner power and see yourself as a victor.

How?

Through a few simple steps — 5 to be exact.

Before I share the steps, I want to say that you are stronger than you know. You are wiser than you realize — and now is the time to step into your inner power.

I say this to you as well as to remind myself that we have to look beyond what is happening right now, which is overwhelming to say the least.

Not ignore or overlook — but not get caught up in all the drama of all the things we can’t change. The only thing you have control over is yourself and how you respond. Or do you react?

YOU have a choice.

You can continue down the path you’ve always been on or if you are like me, choose a NEW way to be. My old path wasn’t suiting me. So I started down a NEW path.

This said, sometimes I find myself on my old path. It’s a path of fear, anxiety and depression. It’s what I know, it’s a habit, it’s my default. It’s the life I have always known.

And it’s the life I don’t want to live. It’s not the life I want now — it’s not the life I choose to create. I have learned to separate myself from those emotions.

“I just want everything to be okay once again. To get back to normal.” My friend shared.

Can you relate?

The truth is, everything will be okay as soon as you are okay with everything…

This is a direct quote from Michael Singer in The Untethered Soul. Take a deep breath — take that line in.

“How can I possibly be okay with everything? Look at what is happening out there.” We can’t change what is happening out there — but we can change what is happening inside.

We can change the meaning we give to what is happening.

Things are going to happen — they always have and always will. How we handle what is happening — that’s where the struggle, the suffering comes in.

What is the silver lining? Who are the helpers? What can you learn about yourself? Who can you become from this experience?

Find the gratitude…

When we step out of the problem, we are better able to step into the solution.

Step into your inner power…

Why focus on inner power? Because when you change yourself — you play a part in changing the world.

5 Ways to Tap into Your Inner Strength:

1. Step outside your comfort zone — The process of self-improvement is an uncomfortable one. When you create NEW habits and routines, you push past your limitations. No longer are you the person your parents and environment created you to be. YOU create the person that you desire to be.

2. Practice positive thinking in all circumstances — How can you grow from what is happening? Look for the light in the dark times. When you tap into your inner strength, especially in challenging times, you will see that no one or nothing can drag you down.

3. Develop healthy routines and habits — Make time to take care of yourself. The benefits of improving your health and well-being outweigh the extra time spent. If you feel you already don’t have enough time, then take a close truthful look at your day. Are you productive or just busy? We all have routines and habits — are they the best for you?

4. Spend time with empowered, uplifting people — Who are the people who drain your energy? Negative people can suck the life and hope out of you. They hold you back, not help you as you look to move past your limitations. Who inspires you? Who would support you in your goals and dreams? You might need to find some NEW people to hang with.

5. Don’t follow the norm — Lead the way. This isn’t about fitting in, it’s about standing out — and up for yourself. Become resilient in what life brings your way and as you deal with inner demons and face your truths.

Many people are choosing to distract themselves as a way to deal with life. They look for the easy way and want to avoid doing the work of self-improvement. They feel no control and live in fear of what’s next.

I’m asking you to take control and continue this journey with me. Why? As we individually transform ourselves, we collectively transform our world.

Be the change you wish to see…

….This is the journey of self-awareness.
