Don’t Click On Grammarly Suggestions
Don’t let Grammarly make you dumb.
Grammarly is a god’s gift. It corrects my mistakes and improves the quality of my writing with just a few clicks.
But they say it right — “too much dependence on technology makes humanity less intelligent”.
Grammarly was preventing me from learning from my mistakes. I saw myself making the same spelling mistakes again and again. The same grammar mistakes again and again.
I had become too reluctant to learn from my mistakes and avoid them next time because Grammarly was doing it for me.
But one day, I felt helpless when I had to write something on plain paper and Grammarly wasn’t there.
I got stuck at writing a correct spelling of a very common word. A word that I used hundred times before. But at that time I was just unable to remember the correct spelling of it. I felt so embarrassed. And realized what harm Grammarly was doing to me.
So what did I do next? Uninstalled Grammarly? Of course not. Never ever going to do it.
Instead, I started doing one simple thing. Rather than clicking directly on available suggestions, I started typing it out.
This way now my brain consciously observes my every mistake. And after typing the right thing a few times it creates a long-lasting memory in my head that helps me recall it easily.
After doing this for a long enough time I’ve seen a significant reduction in the repetition of my mistakes. Also, I’ve learned correct spellings of many words that I used to know only verbally.
We learn from our mistakes, but only when we take them seriously. Not when we become ignorant.
