Donald Trump’s Making a Plea to the Supreme Court.
Obviously, he wants to stay on the ballot.
We’ve all heard about Donald Trump’s legal issues. The four indictments have been at the top of the news cycle on a regular basis from the very beginning. Of course, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that the issues stemming from his indictment in relation to his involvement with the January 6th riot have landed the former President’s problems in front of the Supreme Court. As he fights to get reelected, the states of Colorado and Maine taking him off the ballot is now being examined by the highest court in the land, and Trump has decided to weigh in with a final written argument.
John Fritze with CNN writes:
“Former President Donald Trump on Monday urged the Supreme Court to keep his name on Colorado’s ballot, accusing his challengers of pursuing an “anti-democratic” legal case against him, in the final written argument he’s expected to make before the justices hear oral arguments in the case this week.
“He is the presumptive Republican nominee and the leading candidate for President of the United States,” Trump’s attorneys told the Supreme Court in the brief. “The American people — not courts or election officials — should choose the next President of the United States.”
Trump’s attorneys compared the litigation seeking to remove him from the ballot to anti-democratic efforts in Venezuela…”
Well, we all know how this is going to turn out, don’t we?
At least, Donald Trump thinks he does and personally, I can’t really blame him for feeling optimistic. Anyone in his position would be, considering he and his administration selected three of those nine justices themselves. I’m sure Trump is feeling perfectly confident that he’ll be back on the ballot soon enough, and I doubt he’s losing any sleep over it.
If I’m being honest, I’m pretty indifferent to whatever the outcome is.
Maybe I’m just so thoroughly convinced that he’ll be back on the ballot and that those moves were a waste of time, I haven’t even truly considered the alternative. To be fair to myself though, has anyone honestly considered the alternative? It feels as though we’ve all just come to assume that Trump’s going to be fine.
When hasn’t Trump ever been fine?
No matter what he does, no matter the problem he causes, things just seem to work out for the former President. His entire life, he has never known accountability and I just don’t think this is the scenario where that changes. These Justices are not going to be the ones to keep Trump off the ballot, and it would be foolish to think otherwise. I expect this to be over with soon, and I’m sure Trump and his team do as well.
