Weekend reading tips

Hi! This week has been crazy busy. My book, Win the Day, is just a few laps from the finish line. Hopefully, I won’t pull a Lando Norris and lose my grip, and the race, just a razor’s edge from the checkered flag. Nevertheless, I did find three really good stories to share with you this weekend. They are all five-minute reads or less. So you can enjoy these with a cup of coffee as a lazy beginning to your Sunday (whenever you need to be swept away from your current stress-producing activity).

Have any of you ever been to a psychic? Do you suppose they can really predict the future, or do you think it’s all a bunch of hocus pocus? Janie Emaus’ hair-raising story, How A Psychic Turned Me Into A Believer, may change the minds of you non-believers and validate the feelings of those who accept the presence of supernatural forces. It’s a good story for a stormy day like we are experiencing here in Tokyo today.

I’m a huge believer in visualizing your goals. I keep a wall empty just for planning out projects and visualizing my progress. However, some people don’t like walls filled with post-it notes and cut-out pictures, and others just think that looks like a mess. @Liz Smith came up with a better idea for keeping yourself moving forward. She shares it in her story Better Than a Vision Board. This may be just the technique you need.

Finally, if you are looking for a job at the moment, the markets are pretty hot globally. Even if you haven’t considered changing companies, now may be the time to explore your options. Did you know that many new jobs pay upwards of 25% more for the same responsibilities as your current one? Mary Liga provides some good tips for acing your next interview in her story Confidence Isn’t The Key To Crushing Your Interview. Mary is a hiring manager, so she knows what she is talking about. Regardless of what side of the table you are sitting on, there are some valuable takeaways from her story.

After a week of 15+ hour days, I think I need more than a couple of minutes to relax and read some good stories. Fortunately, Illumination has hundreds of engrossing reads every week.

Be good to yourself,

John
