Does the negative serve to define the positive?

There is no perfect time but today to define what happened to us and move forward with it.

Day 2-

Theme: Quora answers

Illumination’s lights went out

Over the last few days, I lost a publication I call home: Illumination. When this happened I realized that negatives serve to create a stronger positive. Essentially, we need to understand why we need negativity in our life and how positivity can balance it out.

When the lights went out I sat on my bed and read a novel. I cleaned and distracted myself from the reality that a place that just started to feel like home to me was gone. It is similar to how we felt when the declaration order to stay at home during the Covid Pandemic happened. I just couldn’t believe my eyes. I turned to Slack to feel the community.

We were all lost in a sense. Sad that all of our hard work vanished in milliseconds for an issue that we were not warned about. Such an event made us feel negative about the platform Medium. We love this platform. But when our hard work was erased…where did we go? Who was at fault? Our darkness was slowly burning but we wanted to remain positive and continue to write for the platform as writers.

While soul searching for how I was going to deal with such a blackout, I decided to check on my Quora for answers that I was being asked. One of them was about positives and negatives. This inspired me to believe that we could turn our blackout into a positive one by trying to fight peacefully to get our publication out.

What do Negative and positive events mean?

Negative events teach us life lessons. They are not meant to haunt us, but some do. Events happen to us and we can not change how, when, and what sort of event that will happen unless we have the power to cause it to happen. We can only change how our brain perceives these events. What do I mean by this?

Negative events are considered grandiose issues that happen to us either on a rare occasion or daily. I consider these events in my life to be funerals, car crashes, breakups, drunken arguments, gossip, quarrels, addictions, and anything that impacts my mind into a state of stress, anxiety, and depression. Such actions, feelings, and events can create a negative mindset for me and bad reactions can obstruct the way I view a day.

However, these are events that I find negative to me. For you, they may differ. Our negatives teach us during the road of chasing our dreams, futures, and selves that we have happiness already. It is within us. Only we need to seek it inside ourselves.

Let’s Bring in some science to the table

Science is a key component of human nature and thought. Many will argue but science is all mathematics, laboratories, and problem-solving. However, we need these elements to be able to test human emotional capacity, genetic evolution, and the ability to survive viruses. In other words, it is not entirely wrong to look at science mechanics and relate them to human nature.

Physics, for example, is difficult to relate to any part of human emotion or nature because it relates to our planet and logic. Humans aren’t logical enough to relate to such a branch of science? Well, I am here to tell you to think outside the box like my science teacher once told me. If it can fit in a box perfectly then something must be wrong during the process.

In science, we deal with a lot of negatives and positives, but with physics, it is the sole purpose to understand opposition in our world. For example, we can’t throw a ball into the air and not expect it to come back down. Gravity happens. A force pushes the ball back down to Earth. The definition in physics is “ a force=a push or pull” and we can’t live without force.

North can’t happen without South because we must have an up and a down. A direction must be had. Science speaks about the molecular human mind. Humans have a desire to need to achieve, be lead, or have a direction in their life that everything should go. In our current society, we have advertisements and social media to help us compare ourselves to how terrible we are at meeting our own goals.

But in science, we can not eliminate gravity or force out of nature. We can’t eliminate the human desire to be better and grow. Thus, we will always have to accept our negatives and positives in our life.
