Does Name Really Matter?
Not when you have a ton of other things to look forward to in a person
Let me just start by saying that Indian society is complex.
Many Indians don’t know the answers to so many things, why we do things, and what the logic is.
The same applies to naming children.
Bollywood fans will name their kids after their favourite actors/actresses. Cricket fans will give their children the names of famous cricketers. Out of the 3 crore Gods and Goddesses we have, most religious families have a variety of names to choose from.
The only family name that we carry forward is the last name (surnames) of our fathers. Indian society is mainly patriarchal. A girl is expected to adopt the last name of her husband after she gets married.
Most Indian names are derived from our ancient language, which is the Aryan language.
That being said, a lot of Indian names have literal and figurative meanings.
For instance,
My name is Drashti.
In my native language, the meaning of my name is translated as –
“Sight”
Vision.
A step beyond would, my name would also mean the way we see things or “perspective”.
The ability to see.
I have grown up without a nickname. Everyone in my family has always called me Drashti.
For me, my name is neutral. I am not too fond of it, but I don’t dislike it either.
My parents thought of this name. I have asked many times what was their thought behind choosing this name, and I am yet to get an answer.
All I know is that, as per my sunshine, based on the Hindu calendar and astrology, it would suit me best if my name started from D.
Perhaps, it was a random choice.
They love my name. They love me too 🥰🥰
Names have never bothered me. They haven’t impressed me either. What I care about is the person behind the name. A good personality makes all the difference.
I have seen and known many people who are very possessive about their names. They would easily get offended if someone called out their name incorrectly.
Not me.
I don’t mind even if someone mispronounced my name, which happens a lot because I am in a foreign country. Most people here can’t pronounce my name correctly but I am least bothered.
It’s okay 😊
Someone’s name or family background should never be the basis to judge someone.
I am eager to read interesting stories and meanings behind your names!
