Let us take a look at a quick example of how a title and description can affect views

Let’s imagine you search for something similar to the options below and these results showed up on YouTube search. Only one of them can be a person’s first choice and because everyone thinks a little bit differently, all of them have an opportunity to get clicked. Let's not forget YouTube thumbnails and the number of views also influences people's decisions, but right now we’re only looking at phrases.

Option 1

Title: Learn SEO Techniques to Rank Higher on YouTube

Description: I have a super awesome secret SEO technique that will boost your video ranking.

Option 2

Title: Best SEO Technique to Rank #1 on YouTube

Description: I will teach you an SEO technique that will guarantee your video ranks #1 on YouTube searches.

Option 3

Title: YouTube SEO Techniques To Rank Within The Top 100 (Guaranteed)

Description: I use this SEO technique all the time. Stick around to the end where I give away a free gift :-)

Which option do you believe is best?

Let us look at a title and description that might improve YouTube views

You want a title and description that entices people to click on your video over everyone else. That means you want words that meet the search intent but also attract a user’s attention.

Title and description example:

Title: 3 SEO Techniques That Will Guarantee Your Video Ranks #1 on YouTube Search

Description: I teach my top 3 super secret SEO techniques that I use to rank #1 on YouTube all the time. Stick around to the end of the video where I give away a $100 Amazon gift card. Subscribe to my channel where I help 1 lucky viewer each month :)

Before I begin, I’m not claiming this option is better. I just took what I believe was best from the above options. Let's analyze what I chose:

  1. I have 3 techniques, not just 1.
  2. I guarantee the #1 position on YouTube search, not just ranking higher.
  3. I’m giving away a $100 Amazon gift card at the end of the video.
  4. I also help my fellow subscribers with their SEO.

The goal is you want to be better and more enticing than your competitors. Especially if the video you created is going after an unsaturated keyword that very few people created a video on.

The ultimate goal is to find keywords that people haven’t created a video for. That is how you rank on YouTube. You don’t want to post the 1000th video on some generic keyword. For example, “Lofi Study Music”, there are thousands of videos with this keyword. Check out my YouTube music channel, Lofi Study Music. I tried to use the channel name to rank higher and it didn’t work as planned.

If you’re having trouble finding low-competition keywords. I highly recommend signing up for VidIQ and downloading their browser extension. Their keyword explorer goes a long way and is well worth the price. Follow this link to VidIQ.

A more detailed explanation of how your YouTube title and description can affect your views

In some cases, changing your title or description may help you get more views. In others, it may not make a difference at all. It all depends on what you’re trying to accomplish with your videos and how you’re promoting them.

With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at how title and description changes can affect your views.

Your Title

Your title is one of the most important factors when it comes to getting views on your videos. It’s the first thing that people see, and it’s what grabs their attention and makes them want to watch.

That’s why it’s so important to make sure your title is catchy and interesting. You want to make sure it stands out from the crowd, and that it makes people want to learn more.

If you’re having trouble coming up with a good title, check out some of the top-performing videos in your niche. See what they’re doing that you’re not, and try to incorporate those elements into your own titles.

Your Description

Your description is also important, but it’s not quite as critical as your title. People will usually read your description if they’re interested in learning more about your video, but they won’t necessarily do so if they’re just browsing through their feed.

That’s why it’s important to make your description informative and helpful. You want to give people a reason to read it, and you want to make sure it provides all the information they need.

You should also use your description to link to your website or social media pages. This will help you drive more traffic to your content, and it will help you build a stronger relationship with your audience.

The Bottom Line

At the end of the day, it’s clear that changing your title or description can have a positive or negative effect on your views. It all depends on what you’re trying to achieve, and how you’re promoting your videos.

If you’re looking to get more views, then you should focus on creating catchy titles and informative descriptions. If you’re trying to build a stronger relationship with your audience, then you should link to your website or social media pages in your description.

No matter what you’re trying to do, make sure to always test different changes to see what works best for you. And most importantly, keep creating great content!

Title and description tips for getting more views on YouTube

There are a few things you can do to make sure your YouTube videos are seen by as many people as possible. The first is to make sure your titles and descriptions are optimized for search.

The title is the most important part of your video, so make sure it’s catchy and interesting. You also want to use the right keywords so that your video will show up in search results. Find keywords people haven’t created a video on. You’re guaranteed to rank.

The description is also important because it’s your chance to include more keywords and also give people a little more information about your video.

You can also use tags to further optimize your videos for search.

Another thing to keep in mind is that your videos need to be of good quality if you want people to watch them. Make sure the lighting is good and the audio is clear.

And finally, be sure to promote your videos on social media and other websites. The more people who know about your videos, the more views you’re likely to get.
