Does Anyone Else Spend Time Looking At Houses You Can’t Afford On Zillow?
If you plead guilty, clap your hands.
There’s something about looking at million dollar homes and visualizing myself living in them that makes it feels like a guilty pleasure. My bank account may be giving me the side eyes, but that won’t stop me from manifesting my dream home.
It costs absolutely nothing for one to dream. Sure, I’ll need to pay electricity and internet bills to look at houses on Zillow, but that’s already half the battle because the clearer your vision is, the closer you are to attracting it to your physical reality.
Congratulations on making that first step!
What’s next?
This is a question I ponder upon myself as I browse through countless pictures of these beautifully designed homes. How do I get from my current not so ideal living situation to that? It feels good to fantasize, but eventually you’ll need to start taking the practical steps to make that dream come true. But before you overthink and become discouraged that it might seem like a faraway dream after all, consider the positives that you are getting out of this.
5 Benefits You Should Not Overlook
1. Creating a vision board. You can’t live in your dream home without knowing what it looks like, and that involves exploring as many options as you can. As you’re browsing through many different properties, you’re already creating mental notes and hopefully saving bookmarks of these places that sparked your interest so that you can revisit them in the future as you’d like. When you’re finally ready to purchase the house of your dreams, you will already know which one it is that your heart is calling for.
2. Getting to know yourself better. Did you know you didn’t want to live in a big city packed with apartments and condos, but would rather prefer a place out in the nature where you can live enough distance away from other people so that you won’t have to deal with neighbors blasting music every single night? Maybe you find yourself looking at apartments and town homes more because you actually love to be around people. Perhaps that open concept home makes you feel you can really be connected with your family or you’re already feeling overwhelmed by looking at it because you’re big on privacy.
3. Anticipation for the future. What can be more exciting than being able to feel and be completely free in your own personal space? Especially after years of sharing living situations with different people and having to accommodate your lifestyle accordingly. Say yes to no more, feeling conscious about singing in the showers for the fear of being judged or being an annoyance! Say yes to decorating your place with all the things you love! If this doesn’t motivate you to actively work towards and look forward to the future, I don’t know what will.
4. Inspiration to surpass your own self-imposed limitations. How did we get from looking at houses to here? Well, let me ask you this. Can you buy that million dollar home while spending all your time working at that 9 to 5 job you absolutely dread working at? Can you buy a million dollar home not completely believing in your own ability to buy that million dollar home? Can you buy that million dollar home while constantly looking at how others are doing and comparing yourself with them? Heck, here I am writing 1 cent articles with a million dollar dream, but I’m doing it.
5. Develop a sixth sense. Maybe after spending all this time looking at these different properties, you’ll be better at telling what’s a good price for the type of home you are looking at. Who doesn’t like a good deal? Who doesn’t like not being scammed? There’s also a good rule of thumb that the more time you spend on something, the more knowledgeable you’ll become on that topic. Maybe you’ll decide to join the real estate industry and begin a new chapter there. Who knows where life can take us?
