Doctor Doctor
An ode to Dr. Mehmet Yildiz, creator of ILLUMINATION
Dear Doctor Y, You remind me of Doctor Who Or perhaps I should say, Doctor How
Because I can’t begin to imagine How you have 70 hours in a day When the rest of us have only 24
Your efforts are like that of an army! Nay, I exaggerate, perhaps only that of a medium-sized company
Be that as it may, it cannot possibly be true That one human alone, with One set of human “equipment”
Two eyes, two hands, one brain And one giant ticking clock Can do all that you do, Dr. Y!
You write you compile, you engage You socialize, you digitize, you moderate But above all, Dr. Y, you shepherd
All of us, little sheep in your flock Bringing us together into a family that delights, nurtures, soothes
Our differently splayed plumes, our variously prevaricated interests, our diversities and creativities teeming
Sometimes I think you must be superhuman, Dr. Y And then I think you must have infinite capabilities Of tolerance, of purpose, of conviction, of insight
You seem to me like the ultimate creator With your lab tools and Petri dishes Combining us all with your secret recipes
Thank you for everything and more, Dr. Y! ILLUMINATION exists because of you And may we all grow stronger, together
Amen to that.
Dr. Mehmet Yildiz, it is thanks to you that we are all here together. I can’t tell you what a difference it makes to my life during the shutdown to make new friends here on ILLUMINATION and look forward to reading their wonderful stories across the world. Of course, I also (secretly) look forward to their comments on my stories. I feel I have found my tribe in this community, and for that, I am so very grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
