YOU Want Many Viewers & Money? Then Please Upload Pictures!
They really help bring in Viewers
When writing an article on medium it is important to write an engaging title and a subtitle (some don’t do this either), write an engaging article and also put the relevant tags.
Now it is also equally important to put an engaging picture. I have come across some articles where people don’t even bother uploading a picture. I know finding a relevant picture is hard and sometimes time consuming. Of course, people are also concerned about using someone else’s pictures and getting into trouble.

Some people go to wikicommons and use the pictures from there, which are on Public Domain. There are also other websites that have pictures that can be used, which are available to the public. Even if wikicommons does not have the pictures you want, you can use a picture(s) from another website but make sure you cite the source under the picture so that you don’t get into trouble. Cartoons can be used too like the one below, which shows that the stock market is rising if you’re writing an article about the stock market. That is if you don’t like using someone’s else’s image.

The primary picture appears on the side of the article when it appears on the main page for all to see. The relevant category or the tag the author has tagged it will appear under the article. One thing I’ve noticed is that, medium chooses the first tag to displace it under and not the remaining four tags. So, please choose the first tag carefully. I could be wrong, but so far, that’s what I’ve noticed.
Medium also let’s you change your primary picture if you have more than one picture uploaded. So, you don’t have to stick with the first picture as your primary picture.
The first thing that catches the person’s eye from my experience is the title. After that, it is probably the first few sentences if the person has time to read. If the person has no time to read the first few sentences as he or she is scrolling through, the next thing they will see is the picture. So, if the picture is interesting, they will click on the article to read it. If not, they will scroll onto the next article and onto the next one.
Wait! You aren’t done yet. The first paragraph also has to be engaging and if you have more pictures, make sure that they are interesting too. Some people don’t have a lot of time to read a long article, but can get the gist by scrolling through it and by looking at the pictures. They can get the gist also by reading the captions under them. This may then tempt them to think of reading more of your article at that time or come back to it later when they are free and read at their leisure.
In that way, you can use pictures to suck in a viewer to read your article and also gain a follower or a fan, maybe more.
Now don’t just put a lot of pictures and less content. There has to be more content obviously. But what I’m implying is that use pictures to suck the viewer in and to keep them engaged until they’ve read the whole article thereby, increasing the reading time and you get paid more.
YOU see where I’m going with all this?
Therefore, remember: engaging title, subtitle, engaging first paragraph and also primary picture and more if needed. Also make sure you write captions under your pictures and cite the sources under your them.
