Do You Want To Know Why This Old-Timer Is a Cheerful and Thankful Man
Four things not good turned out remarkably well for me.

There is always goodness in the dirt if we dig deep enough. Life throws curves at us. Curve balls hit hard sometimes.
I’m a man of faith, and my doctors played a big role in my health. I’m thankful for my faith and for the medical profession.
Older than dirt
Have you ever heard the term, You’re older than dirt? Some younger people might think this about us, senior citizens. Well, I’m old at seventy-nine, but I’m not older than dirt. Besides, I have a lot to be thankful for at this stage of life. After all, the Thanksgiving holiday is fast approaching, so I should tell you why I’m grateful.
The old man
When someone points the finger at me and says, “That old man’s not all there.” He’s right. Some doctor removed my gallbladder years ago. So, my guess is I’m not all here. But I’m much better because of it. Thankful, yes.
When you lose one thing, you ought to add something
I did!
For ten years after my heart attack, doctors inserted stents in my arteries. Altogether, I have five stents keeping blood flowing, and that’s a good thing. Thankful, yes.
I had a pain in my neck
Doctors placed bone grafts and inserted three screws to repair my neck’s spine. I had deteriorating disc and bone — an excruciating time for me. But, I have no problem with my neck now; yes, I’m thankful. Oh, and by the way, all three screws are tight. The surgeons checked and affirmed to me there are no loose screws in my head. Knowing nothing is loose makes me a happy man.
What did you say?
My hearing, I lost it. The pounding presses in the factory did a number on me, for sure. Over the years, hearing loss became more prevalent. First I wore hearings aids. Then two years ago I received a Cochlear implant. Through the awesome technological advances in hearing loss applications, I hear. And that’s a good thing. Thankful, yes, for sure.
I’m one step ahead of Ludwig Von Beethoven when he, being deaf, said:
“I shall hear in Heaven.”
Thank you technology!
When terrible things happen to us what do we expect? It could turn out as significant improvements we didn’t expect.
I’m thankful
So, when someone says, I’m not all there, no, I’m much more there than I was at twenty-five. I’ve had upgrades. For that, I’m thankful.
I like the way Zig Ziglar puts it.
“The more you express gratitude for what you have the more you will have to express gratitude for. “
Looking back over your life, what terrible thing, in the end, made you better?
I have much more than these four, but your time to read is short, I respect and appreciated you read my story this far.
