Do You Use Your 3 Brains Effectively? Let’s Unleash Our Wisdom!

The brains in our head, our heart, and our gut are at our disposal

Science is making progress. Following the wonderful finding on epigenetics, quantum physics, and neuroscience, we learn how to apply this wisdom in our daily lives.

What’s happening? Science is finally thinking outside the box and discovering that the world is defined by chaos, complexity, and systemic thinking. Anyone with a fully functional intuition and common sense could have told them that ages ago, but okay. Finally, we are proving it in a rational way.

“What does this have to do with me?” my friends often ask. They know I work in the field of regeneration. For them, I’m a source of nature-information. And our bodies are just that. Nature…

And I tell them: “It changed all for me! As soon as I got the hang of it, I stopped being paralyzed by the chaos around me. I stopped pleasing others. I discovered how to be my own guru and live the best life ever. Taking up the space that’s rightfully mine on this planet. And leave enough space for other people and other species. It’s a good place to be. Very productive. Very loving. Very adventurous.”

So let me tell you about the good news of having three brains. We have one in our head. One in our heart. And one in our gut. And if we use all three to their full function, we can unleash superpowers in all of us.

Head-Brain

Our head brain consists of two halves.

“McGilchrist’s thesis is that our brain has two complimentary halves which approach the world in different ways. The right cerebral hemisphere is more concerned with connection and the bigger picture, while the left hemisphere is concerned with the technical, the detailed and the straight line” — British Journal of General Practice

If we read the above text, most of us will come to the conclusion that we use the left half more in our daily lives than the right half. We think linear and structured. Are taught how to value only the quantitative bits in our schools. And like to prove technical details.

The potential, however, is in the right half. The systemic thinking half. The half that can deal with complexity and chaos. That can feel through the systems and find the acupuncture points of change.

Lifehack: unleashing the potential of our right brain-half happens through creativity. Live the most creative life you can have. Treasure adventure. Be courageous. Experiment. And feel how your two brain halves start to collaborate in your head…

Heart-Brain

Our heart-brain consists of 40,000 neurons. Our hearts can think. Feed our neural systems with information. We knew that already of course. All people who had their hearts broken at one time, know that our hearts can make our bodies hurt awfully.

But the opposite is true too. Thinking with our hearts can enhance our health and neural systems.

And now it’s proven scientifically. And as soon as we become aware, we can feel what it means to think with our hearts. And channel those feelings to help us lead a purposeful life.

Lifehack: the entrance to our heart-brain is through emotions. They often lead us astray. But they become useful when we learn how to channel them, how to feel them in our bodies. How to release our emotions and give them back to the soil, to the universe.

Use the mind-body connection wisely. Meditation can do that. Breathing can do that. Mindfulness can do that. And there are way more techniques to explore.

Gut-Brain

Our gut-brain is mighty important in current times. In our gut, we have a symbiosis, a collaboration with important micro-organisms. And this symbiosis makes sure we have a good immune system. We have to feed this brain. We have to keep her healthy. We have to be aware of her value.

Lifehack: these are two aspects we can take action on.

  1. What kills the microbiome? Things like antibiotics, pollution, and environmental chemicals. Don’t be afraid of it, but make sure you bring it back to a minimum. And make sure you give the microbiome an extra boost of goodies when you have had to take antibiotics e.g.
  2. What feeds the microbiome? A combination of actions is needed for that. Some are direct and have to do with food. Lots of vegetables. Fermented foods. Different spices like they teach us in Ayurveda. In general: what is perceived as healthy food. Stay away from processed food, sugars, and too much uniformity. Variety is the best food-hack anyone can use.

Generally speaking, the gut and the whole of your body is happy with lots of fresh air. Breathing deeply. Exhaling as well! Movement of the body. It’s why I walk so much in nature. And why I sleep without an alarm clock. Letting my biological cycles prevail.

It’s why I put my hands in healthy, living soil. The contact of skin with micro-organisms in the soil will strengthen our immune systems and unleash the wisdom of our guts.

Happy natural gardening! Happy walking in nature! Happy connecting to creativity, emotions, and micro-organisms. Let’s rewild our souls and be fully alive!
