Do You Think You Meditate Properly? If Yes, Then Read This Carefully

Three things you may not know about deep meditation yet.

Last week I met a meditator at my family function. When the topic of spirituality arose, he jumped in and bragged, “I’ve been meditating for years. It has transformed my life. My stress levels have decreased a lot. You should also try it.”

I became interested immediately.

I asked, “So, what exactly do you do in meditation?”

Nobody in my family knows about my hidden talent for being a spiritual coach. Okay, it is too much self-boasting. LOL. But honestly, none knows about my spiritual journey until I feel someone is ready.

So my proud cousin shared, “I regularly do yoga and guided meditation. I’ll share some with you if you are interested.”

“Well, it's great. But I’ve heard meditation is much beyond guided meditations.” I said.

“Who told you this? Guided meditation will calm your senses, which is all you need in today’s hectic world,” he said.

Indeed, he is right. Calmness has become so precious that we have forgotten it is our fundamental nature. The noise of our mind and world has drowned us in the combined cacophony.

But is guided meditation really meditation?

Don’t confuse meditation with a meditation technique.

People who seek my counsel often ask me, “I have been doing meditations for years. Then why I don’t feel any difference in my life?”

Meditation means many things to different people. Some say it is about focusing on the center of the forehead. For others, it is doing a guided meditation or breathwork. Some say it is mantra chanting or doing kirtans.

I have rarely encountered someone who says it is about doing nothing and just being.

That is the actual meditation.

Guided meditation, kirtans, chants, and anything are ways to get to the state of nothingness. These all are techniques to reach the stillness within.

But why reaching stillness is difficult? Why do we have to find ways to get there?

Because the mind creates noise. A chatter of nonstop thoughts and emotions engulfs us when we sit with closed eyes.

With open eyes, our focus is dispersed. But as soon as we close our eyes, the attention shifts from outer scenes to inner noise. And it is too loud to bear.

You might also have experienced how difficult it is to sit in meditation as a beginner. That is why it is so common for people to quit meditation. They think it is not their cup of tea.

However, the truth is it is normal.

Your inside mental environment screams for attention. And it comes as a tsunami when you close your eyes.

This is also one of the main reasons people cannot sleep properly. Thoughts and emotions overpower your peace. Your focus and relaxation go for a toss.

That is why various methods are used to release the inner pressure.

Use guided meditation, breathwork or chanting, or anything for your meditation preparation. It helps to silence the mind. But don’t forget to sit afterward. That is where the elixir of meditation lies.

In the deeper state of stillness, you no longer exist.

Let me ask you a question —

Do you think you meditate?

OR

Does the meditation happen?

Many meditators believe they are doing an act of meditation. Just like reading, typing, or cooking, they think meditation is also an act of sitting still for a few minutes.

But what if I tell you it is more than your act?

What if I tell you that till ‘you’ are present, real meditation is not happening?

What if I tell you that, in the profound sense, you are not meditating? The concept of you is no more in a deeper state of meditation.

Confused!?

Well, let’s find out what it means.

#1. Meditation is more than your act.

It means that you can perform certain activities to reach the meditative state. But after that, when you reach silence, it just is, irrespective of you.

Meditation happens. You can not force it to happen.

It is not ‘your’ act. It is your natural state of being when you let go of everything.

#2. Till ‘you’ are present, meditation is not happening.

Why?

Because the concept of you is hindering the silence and oneness.

The deepest phase of meditation is when you are nothing. The bliss in meditation happens because there is infinite nothingness. ‘You’ are absent.

It just is.

And till ‘you’ are there, your thoughts, beliefs, conditioning, and identities will create a duality. Oneness can not be there. That is why meditation is not happening in the real sense till you are present.

#3. ‘You’ are not meditating in a deeper state of meditation.

It just is happening through you.

The vast nothingness becomes obvious when you let go of your concept and become utterly still. The vibration of the mind and thoughts becomes nearly zero.

It is not magic. It is the state of being nothing.

Pure meditation is about oneness.

You can not compel it. It happens automatically when you let go of everything you think, believe, or desire. Only then you jump into the abyss of nothingness.

It is not easy to confirm if you reach these states of oneness in the depths of meditation. How can you know when you are no more present?

But there is a way…

These five signs show you reach the state of oneness deep in meditation.

Let the stillness flow.

You, in the real sense, are the utter stillness beneath all the cloaks of identities. The mind creates waves of identities. Use meditation to go beyond the waves and reach the silence that ever flows within you.

It is not a temporary calmness. Instead, it is a permanent being of -isness, with no conflict, stress, or confusion.

Dive deep within yourself and know who you really are. Not the name, relation, body, or emotions. But truly experience your authentic nature of nothingness in the depths of meditation.
