Burnout
Do You Suffer From Burnout?
Or are you suffering from boredom?
I don’t believe in burnout.
Maybe boredom, but not burnout.
If you’re still reading, I’ll tell you why. But please ::: looks around:::, scoot closer so I don’t talk too loud. This might make some folks upset.
Burnout is a decision. An individual’s decision. It’s a crutch, in my opinion.
Still with me? Good, because here comes a truth (in my opinion).
Don’t swallow too early; keep your applause and gulps for later. Boos can go in the comments.
Burnout (?) happens when you haven’t put together a sound Work-Rest Balance, which makes your whole life miserable.
Life gets kind of messy or lumpy, or you want it to change. We have a label for that — Burnout.
Frankly, we have to have a label. It allows us to relieve ourselves from accountability. No doubt, there is something wrong, but it’s not burnout. You’re bored. We’re unfocused in our priorities. Not burnout.
Where was “burnout” 200 years ago? Or 1,000 years ago? Was there such a thing? People did what they did. Or they did something else.
It is about choices.
When I was working in senior living, I worked between 10 and 15 hours a day. I employed my Die Empty Daily practice, which has worked for me for over ten years.
Then, my health took a nose dive. I decided to stop. I wasn’t burned out. I just didn’t have a good Work-Rest balance. I understand my choice. But it wasn’t burnout.
Out of balance? I understand this, as there should be a good balance between work and non-work. Boredom? I’ve been there and eventually made changes.
But I don’t believe in burnout. Do you?
Think about it.
