Do you set Monthly resolutions?

How to set SMART Monthly resolutions

How are your yearly resolutions going? Have you kept fit, quit your bad habits, or earned that extra $1000?

In 2019 I wrote an article on how i thought writing resolutions is a futile exercise. We sit and decide wat we want to do in the coming year and barely two weeks in we cannot sustain the commitment to ourselves.

these resolutions fail because of:

  • Indiscipline
  • Poor planning
  • over ambition

Discipline is a personal choice and there is no amount of self-help blogs or books that can get you off the indiscipline chair. It’s just like faith belief, you will read about the importance of faith but only you can take that next step and believe.

As for poor planning and over-ambition, I have hacked a system that helps me, break down goals into small chunks. Setting goals by months, weeks and days helps the goals to be easily chewable.

I created the journal below:

This is page 5 of the journal I created on Canva.
Page 6 of the journal I created on Canva.

I find it easy to divide my goals into subsections of personal development. So each month I focus on one particular goal whether it is physically, mentally, or spiritually. This month, I hope to read my bible daily and work out to tone my body.

A template I created on Canva for the same journal.

It is important to break your goals into what, when, and how. You can also use the “I will” method. It helps you actualize your dreams.

For example:

  • I will add 5kgs in April.
  • I will earn an extra $300 from my business
  • I will be present for my family

Then write your why, doing this gives you even more reason to pursue your goals. Why do you want an extra $300? To save for a house? To expand your business?

This is page 9 of the journal. The template above is a sample of what I created through Canva.

From the template above, you can write how to accomplish your goals.

For example:

What: I will earn an extra $300 from my business

Why: To add money for my new apartment.

How: I will create content on social media every day to advertise my business. Or I will engage in the writing contest by Janis Gross to win $300.

Breaking down your goals from yearly to monthly and then breaking them down to what, how, and why will help you reach your goals faster.

Thank You for reading. Please answer the following questions in the comment section below:

  • Would you buy this journal if I sold it to you? If so, at how much?
  • How do you set your monthly goals?

Also, don't forget to clap and follow for more. Bye❤
