Do You March to The Beat of a Different Drummer
It’s not a choice, because we are compelled to respond
Are you one of those people who march to the beat of a different drummer? It’s not so much a choice, it’s because you must. The drumbeats are loud and insistent and cannot be ignored.
We see things, we hear things, and we process the same information but in different ways than most other people. We react to certain stimuli differently than others.
This is natural to us because we dare to challenge authority, to speak out against injustices. Because we have the innocence and temerity to just ask why. So many people can’t or won’t.
Why do so many people fall from the state of grace and innocence they are born with? At some point, we all crash into the walls of pettiness and indifference that delineate, demarcate, and define us all.
We rail against willfulness, foolish greed, and spiteful retribution. Those are the hallmarks and byword of the ruling minority of people.
When we are born to follow the beat of a different drummer, we cannot meekly submit to the tyranny of indifference, the lack of empathy, and the loss of hope. We cannot give in to the triumph of despair.
We are fighters and defenders of goodwill, peace, and harmony. It is a muffled, muted but insistent drumming that permeates our being and infuses our souls into speaking out.
It fuels our constant search for truth and beauty in a sometimes harsh and uncaring world of smug satisfaction and self-righteousness.
We are snowflakes driven by an insistent breeze, raindrops spattering against locked windows, and closed minds.
We are a ray of light piercing the murky shadows and dark desolation of the mainstream of ignorance and cruelty.
Why do we bother? Because we must. Because somebody must fight back against the status quo of ignorance and indifference of politicians who only seek to enrich themselves.
We feel the need to speak out against systems that only enrich the already wealthy. That ignores the needs and wants of the masses of humanity and the truth of their scattered, shattered lives.
We march to the beat of a different drummer simply because we must. Because it is a moral imperative to us.
It is a loud and constant beating, a call to arms, a realization and acceptance of awareness. It permeates our being and infuses our souls to stand up and shout out to protest the injustice and willful ignorance of the smug and self-righteous.
It is not something we choose. It is something we cannot refuse.
We are who we say we are, and we need to do what we must do. The visions and dreams we have are insistent, demanding, compelling, and all-consuming.
We fight because it is right. We are driven to question the flawed logic of the minority that rule.
The kings in their castles, the arrogant autocrats of the wealthy and privileged, secure behind their walled fortresses, locked doors, and shuttered windows of wealth and privilege are morally wrong.
There are none so blind as those that will not see. We are driven, impelled, and compelled to speak out.
We need to shine the light of truth, tolerance, and compassion for all. It is our job to complete the task, to heed the beat of our different drummers.
We are the drifters and dreamers, the poets and the musicians, the artists and writers, and the spiritual guides who hear the beat of a distant drummer most clearly.
We must speak out and act out against the wrongs and injustices of the tiny minority who rule the vast majority.
We will not be muffled, suppressed, or ignored. We march to the beat of a different drummer.
We are the ones who listen. We are the ones who act. We are all connected…
