BEAUTY AND SELF-LOVE
Do You Love Her?
Reflections On Self-Love

That vision in the mirror Do you know her? Do you love her? Do you cherish her? Is she you? Are you her? Is that person a true reflection of who you are Or just a glowing mask hiding the truer self?
All the makeup and glam The perfect hair and chiseled brows The sharp lashes and blushed cheeks Are they for you? Is it all for you?
Why do buy and wear that lovely ensemble? Why do look for special lotions, soaps, and creams? Why do you spend money and time on pedicures, manicures, spa baths, and massages? The toners, bronzers, liquid foundations and pressed powders The mascara, eyeliner, lip liner, lipsticks, and lip gloss The contouring, blushers, nail polish, full-body makeup, and setting sprays Is it all for you? Or is it for them?
It would be a shame indeed If all that money and time and expense Was spent just to impress some ‘hims’ or to compete with some ‘hers’ To cause jealousy or envy or make a stunning entry To keep up some appearances or keep up with the Joneses

Sis, do it for you When you stand in front of the mirror with tousled hair, plain face and PJs or tracks Love You When you stand in front of the mirror all glammed up, no hair out of place, makeup on point, skin aglow and all Love You When you stand in front of the mirror with grease stains on your blouse, baby spit-up on your jeans or bleach stains on your apron Love You When you stand in front of the mirror with sunken eyes, tears in your heart and heaviness within Love You When it feels like there is more to life than makeup on a dresser, clothes in a closet, shoes in a wardrobe or bags in their leather wrap Love You
Love you because you are the only one who will love you through it all — the ups and downs and every which way
Always love you
