Do You Live In Your Stretch Zone?
It’s time to become who you are meant to be
Beyond your comfort zone and before your stress zone is your stretch zone.
It is here that you want to live your life. When you spend your time in your stretch zone, you become a better person while enjoying your life.
We may believe we want to live in our comfort zone. It’s where we think we can find rest and where life makes sense. However, it is not where we are learning and growing.
We will need to stretch if we want to see what we are truly capable of accomplishing.
Lesson to Learn
Life is meant to be a challenge. When we live in our stretch zone, we take on challenging problems and learn how to solve them. This place is beyond our comfort zone — it’s beyond what we would typically do.
Our stretch zone offers excitement and opportunity.
We are challenged to learn more and do more. It does have stress. However, it is not so much stress that we end up in the stress zone. In the stress zone, we can feel overwhelmed and uncertain.
Staying in our stretch zone, without letting it become too stressful, is the key to growth while still enjoying the journey.
Answer for Me
It has taken me time and effort to find the right stretch level without tipping my life into stress.
My stretch zone requires me to leave the comfort of knowing the answers in order to venture into areas where I need others’ help and will learn from them.
When I am in my stretch zone, I feel myself growing and making new connections. This is why I say yes to new challenges. I want to be living in my stretch zone.
I also know I have taken on too much when my challenges become too stressful. Then I need to ask for help or dial back what I am doing. By getting the help I need, saying no to some requests, and taking the rest I need, I can again get back into my stretch zone. It’s a balancing act — but worth the effort.
Action
Challenge yourself. Look for opportunities to stretch your learning and capabilities. Say yes when you get invited to efforts that will test you. Do so while looking for those who will help you be successful.
Stretching yourself is usually done with the assistance of others.
When we push, we are going beyond what we can do alone. This is good. We learn new things and meet new people who will become a part of our network.
Challenge yourself to go beyond your comfort zone. And when you need to, step back when you enter into your stress zone. Learn how to find this balance in your own life to be successful.
Daily Habits
Set a goal of learning each day. Find ways to stretch your capabilities and learn new skills. If you are doing so daily, you will be pushing yourself.
Daily move out of your comfort zone to grow.
As you learn, keep track of how you are doing. This will help you build a daily capacity to grow.
At times you will feel stressed; notice it and take action. Find ways to destress so you can again stretch your capabilities. This may result in a daily rhythm of being comfortable, extending your abilities, finding stress points in your life, and learning how to navigate.
It’s all a part of finding the right way for you to live in your stretch zone daily.
