Do You Like When Your Whole Story is Highlighted?
Confessions of an over-highlighter
When a story hooks me from the first few sentences, I get giddy and highlighter happy.
Especially if I start laughing or getting a bit emotional, which I often do. Some stories that I read are so relatable that I want to highlight the entire body!
Swipe, click, highlight. Repeat.
I was the same way in school. I had all the different highlighters so I could light my page up in fluorescent rainbows.
As I was painting a writer’s story green today, I felt a twang of remorse.
I wonder if this person will be annoyed that their WHOLE story is highlighted. The story was highlighted not just by me, but in addition to many other readers, just to be clear.
Does it distract their reader?
For me, I don’t mind if my whole story is highlighted. I feel honored that my words were liked. I love seeing that parts of my story resonated with the reader.
I’m aware though that everyone is not me. The whole world doesn’t revolve around me, either!
So, after I was highlighter happy, I actually tried to figure out if I can erase my highlight.
I wasn’t able to, but if you know please leave me a message.
I’m going to assume that once highlighted, always highlighted. It would be a nice feature because we over-highlighters make mistakes!
If I am highlighting your story, just know that I am reading it. I am not skimming if I am highlighter happy. And, if I went highlighter happy, you best believe that I am going to comment and clap.
When David Perlmutter graced my page with his highlights, I got a major dopamine hit so I just wanted to make sure you know I’m not calling you out! Keep highlighting away!
Let’s take a vote! What do you think?
Do you mind if your entire story is highlighted? Do you hate it or love it?
Do you not care either way?
And, last…
Are you an over-highlighter like me?
