Do You Like Making Money Writing on Medium?
Beyond Clickbait: Building a Community of Genuine Voices, One Light at a Time
If you like making $100 a week from one Medium article and getting accepted to the most coveted publication. If you’re not into bots. If you enjoy becoming a better writer. If you love having your article trend to the highest peaks on Mount Medium, I’m the one you are looking for.
Write to me and escape.
Hopefully, the melody of Escape (The Piña Colada Song) song by Rupert Holmes pounded through your head as you read the intro. If not, it’s a great song that I highly recommend. As a kid, I thought the song was only about piña coladas. Virgin piña coladas were enough to make me want to dance, and I imagined the adult version would make me write a song like Rupert Holmes. However, the song is much more.
If you didn’t know, the man in the song is frustrated with his relationship and writes to find a new lover. He writes about everything he likes to do and doesn’t, then puts his ad in the local paper. As he waits at the specified place, who does he find? His “lovely lady” who possessed everything he needed to escape all along.
Again, it’s a beautiful song and possibly why I love piña coladas. Piña coladas are not the manliest drink, but at 5 foot 5, I’m not winning that battle anyway.
Sweet drinks aside, the song deals with searching for what you desire when it’s right in front of your face. Like the Wizard of Oz, where everyone discovers they didn’t need to kill two innocent witches to find a brain, heart, and courage, their escape was with them all along.
As I read through the sea of Medium articles, what’s my escape? What am I looking for that I already have?
Trading Cream-Filled Articles for Humanity and Triumph
I’m not looking for a Medium soulmate, but I am looking for writers that create escapes.
Do I like making $100 per Medium article? Absolutely! Have I ever made that much from an article? No. But cash rules everything around me (C. R. E. A. M). Cream-filled Medium articles always rise to the top and create a sense of inadequacy for writers who may never reach such a level. Yet, the temptation of money urges me to push out content, follow as many writers as possible to increase viewership, and spam my content everywhere.
I tell myself that I want to write “the” evergreen article that readers read so much that I see it trending on Medium with thousands of claps. Then, I might call myself a writer.
As I wrote, Medium is a gym, and the buff heads will be buff heads cranking out million-dollar Medium articles like nothing. I don’t want to read “nothing,” though.
I want to see the sweetness of life around me.
Why see the world when you got the beach?
-Frank Ocean, “Sweet Life”
I want to read writers who reveal their humanity through words that I would never think to put together. I want to read stories of physical and mental triumphs that give me energy worldwide and force me to overcome my obstacles. I want to find that positive voice through a sea of darkness that refuses to dim its light.
Perhaps I’m the writer I’ve been looking for all along. I need to write for myself and escape. In the process, I’ll find the genuine story I’m looking for or write it myself.
Let’s Shine Together
So, I’m not the one if you’re looking for a how-to to make $100 off a Medium article. Sorry for the clickbait. I can show you how to make an article flop, though. If anything, I hope you’ll find my writing genuine and my perspective human.
I hope to be the light for others until I find other light sources, and then, together, we will all shine brighter.
I know great stories are out there. Thousands of stories are posted on Medium a day. If you know of a unique, genuine writer or publication for me to follow, please mention them in the comments.
Thanks for reading!
