Do You Know the 4 Values of the Agile Manifesto?
Simple rules as the foundation for agile models
Introduction: Simple Rules in the Agile Environment
Simple Rules were designed to encourage employees and support them in their work. All agile methods use the basic principle of simple rules:
As many rules as necessary, but as few rules as possible
Agile models have revolutionized project management and product development since 2001. They consist largely of simple rules.
Concepts such as Scrum owe them their simplicity and impact. They are empowering, while the traditional waterfall model of project management often seems a barrier.
Most agile models impress with their few, but clearly and simply formulated rules.
Most agile rules are how-to and prioritizing rules. Read here about the 5 simple rules for easy management decisions.
The Agile Manifesto
The Agile Manifesto [1] is the basis of agile working methods.
Software industry experts have agreed on a structure of four values and twelve principles to successfully develop products. Meanwhile, the Agile Manifesto was established in many other industries.
As already mentioned, most agile rules are how-to and prioritizing rules.
This is clearly shown in the four values:
- Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
- Working software over comprehensive documentation
- Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
- Responding to change over following a plan
Summary
- Simple rules should promote employees and support them in their work
- Simple rules are the basis for agile models
- Most agile models have few, but clear and simple rules
- Most agile rules are how-to and prioritizing rules.
