Do You Know About Club 251 in Vermont?

It sounds exciting for such a small state.

I love traveling.

What’s not to love, really? Going to a new place, experiencing new things, meeting new people, becoming a more well-rounded person?

Who would’ve thought one could enjoy themselves in the small state of Vermont. Apparently, many people do.

Welcome to Club 251.

It’s a Pretty Cool Club Honestly

I first heard about this on a CBS Sunday Morning broadcast in which they visited the state and talking with folks who are part of the club. And there are plenty of them.

The idea for 251 Club was originated by Dr. Arthur W. Peach in the Summer 1954 issue of Vermont Life Magazine. A poet, professor, writer, and historian, he said:

“I propose to organize a 251 Club to be made up of Vermonters and others who can show that they have visited, not merely driven through, the 251 towns in the state.”

The club has since taken a mind of its own. Basically, you travel around the state and write down where you visited, what you did, what you ate, etc.

And there’s plenty of sites to see in state.

Take these for example:

  • Calvin Coolidge Historic Site
  • Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory
  • Robert Todd Lincoln’s home
  • And so much more!

The only thing that costs to be a part of the club is the yearly subscription. The joys about this is you can do a lot of it for free.

And at your own pace.

There’s no time limit, no special restrictions. Just that you visit each town in the state on your own time.

Then you’re a part of the club.

I Want to Be a Part of the Club Too

I wish my home state of Illinois had something like this. Maybe Chicago is too big or the state itself is too big as well.

Either way, I’ve barely visited the East Coast, and what no better way to start than in Vermont. If I don’t try, I will never know.

I hear it’s a pretty cool state, yet so small, you can be in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York in the same day too. How cool is that?

I plan to make it up to Vermont one of these days. I would love to experience this trip and be part of the club within a month’s span.

The right time will come to make this trip happen. But for now, I’m going to research as much as I can about the state and its sites.
