Do You Enjoy Christmas Shopping at the Mall?
Some people love it, others hate the process but love the results
Do you enjoy Christmas shopping in person? Getting in the car, driving to the mall, finding a parking place, and walking across the cold windy lots until you finally reach the mall entrance? I do.
The anticipation of being on the precipice of entering the mall is almost palpable. Your heartbeat quickens, and you feel excited at being so close to your destination.
You open the doors and walk on inside ready and willing to embrace the full mall experience. And you are never disappointed.
You immediately feel the warmth of being inside the mall, and you hear the holiday music pumping out the loud sounds of Christmas carols and seasonal greetings. It is stimulating, exciting, and energizing.
You are transported to another time and place like Dorothy walking out of the bland black and white of Kansas into the technicolor wonderment and excitement of Oz. You are in the mall zone now.
The mall is almost always packed around this time of year, with excited children running around, and parents trying to keep an eye on them. They both take in all the sights, sounds, colors, and aromas and listen to the excited chatter filling the air.
You are surrounded by other people just like you, on the same mission to keep the Christmas spirit alive, thumping and bumping, and all so very human. It is a moveable feast for all the senses.
Your hungry eyes scan around the long aisles, each turn, each level you witness bringing you a new feast of visual delight for the palate of your imagination.
It is easy to get lost in a mall. There are so many different displays and so many fascinating stores! Each one is an opportunity to explore, discover, and ultimately claim your desired prize to take home.
Some people bring lists and hunt out their desired purchases quick, fast, and in a hurry. They are not true shopping lovers, because they regard the mall and all its enticing blandishments as just so many obstacles.
They stop, they shop and they get on down the road to their next destination, another chore done they can check off their to-do lists.
They think they are winners, but they are losing out on the magic of what-ifs and wonderment, dreams and realizations, delight and pleasure.
They are missing out on the true joy of Christmas, the childlike sense of awe and surprise, delight and discovery.
Because the true shopping lover likes to meander and wander and discover hidden treasures, offbeat prizes, and unexpected rewards just around every hidden corner. How about you?
There are so many possible outcomes to your quest, so many unexpected gift choices and ideas that you had never even considered.
It is an abundance of moments of pleasure beyond measure, rewards beyond expectations, and surprises to warm up the coldest hearts.
A decorative Christmas shawl or sweater for your grandparents, the latest video game for your kids, or something special and personal for your significant others? It is all laid out in the most enticing displays.
The array of choices is dazzling, the expectations are without limit, except for your imagination. Time has no meaning when you are gift-tripping, exploring, and discovering new and exciting possibilities.
Oh sure, you can always shop online, but even the most dedicated follower of fashion sometimes has to step outside the comfort zone of their computer screens and see what’s out there. Live and in living color.
Sometimes time and circumstances limit our flexibility and we have to do at least part of our shopping online. It is quick, convenient, and easy to do, but is it as much fun as shopping in person. What do you think?
I love going to the mall and getting out of my routine. I love experiencing being in the mall zone. How about you?
Holidays are meant to be savored. Feel the joy and love. We are all connected…
