Do You Check Your Stats?

I rarely check stats. It seems to me to be firstly a waste of time, and secondly a means of provoking anxiety — even jealousy.

It’s probably a little unusual for an indie author. I know a lot of authors who check their Amazon buys and page reads several times day, and I see people post on Twitter about how many books they have sold.

Truth is, I don’t know how many Kindle page reads I have this month, never mind today.

It’s similar here on Medium. I’m interested to see it when people post their stats, graphs of their readership, etc, but I couldn’t tell you how it compares to mine. (I’ll check mine once a month and update you, like I did here 😄) I do read comments carefully, however, and respond to them.

That is feedback enough for me.

Time is precious, and I’d rather focus on writing.
