Do You Believe that by Blessing Others, You Will Be Blessed?
I do. Here’s a tale about small blessings.

We arrived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after another RV-GPS fiasco. I won’t get started on that story here, but I’ll share it soon. I admit to bringing it all on myself through a stupid mistake I hope never to repeat.
This is a good news tale that has no room for the negative. It starts with my walk on the beach in the morning.
Despite being only 49 degrees when I headed out, I warmed up quickly and resorted to tying my sweatshirt around my waist. I was shocked that people were actually walking in the ocean with bare feet. I asked a couple if the water was cold, and they said it was 70 degrees. I would never have believed that as I exited our motorhome bundled up in my sweatshirt.

I was enjoying God’s splendor and feeling overwhelmed by gratefulness. I mused, “If I can find a stick, I’m going to write, “God is good,” in the sand. No sooner had the thought crossed my mind than I turned around to see the perfect writing tool. The branch I found lying in wait was about two feet long and pointed at the end. I looked into the beautiful blue sky and said, “Thank you, Jesus.”

I scrolled the words into the damp sand, stood back to admire it, and took a picture before heading towards the pier. I figured if I walked to the pier and the length of it, I’d get in my daily 10,000 steps by my return to the motorhome. I made my way through a path and up to the pier’s deck. I saw a sign that said, “$2.00 to walk on the pier,” that pointed to the fishing shop where you could pay the fee.
I don’t take money with me on my morning walks. I take a bottle of water and my phone for photos. Disappointed, I headed back to the beach. I said hello to a couple walking in the opposite direction of me, and we stopped to chat. I told them about my disappointment with the $2.00 fee because I don’t carry cash, and the sweet lady immediately went for her wallet and gave me the money. I assured her I didn’t tell her about my plight so that she’d give me money and told her I didn’t want to take hers. She and her husband insisted that I keep it.
The old me missed out on so many blessings because of pride. I finally realized that if someone wants to bless you, it’s insulting to them not to accept. I know this because after renewing my relationship with Christ, I got much better about blessing people, and when they wouldn’t take my offerings, I felt insulted.
The smallest thing can make a big difference for someone. Even a compliment like, “I like your shirt,” can change someone’s day for the better.
So, I took the $2.00 blessing, and I took a walk on the pier. It was packed with people fishing. I’ve never seen so many women fishing. It was a community of like-minded people doing something they love, and it was a joy to see.

The end of the pier was blocked off, and I asked a fisherman about it. He said Hurricane Ian had caused some damage, and the powers that be had blocked it off for safety until repairs could be made. I’d forgotten that Ian hit the Carolinas as well as Florida. Thankfully, Myrtle Beach didn’t receive a ton of damage.
I thanked the gentleman for the information, told him to catch a big one, and headed for our campground. I was almost at the beginning of the pier when the lovely couple that gave me the money walked towards me. They inquired if I enjoyed it, and I asked if I could have a selfie with them. I knew I had to write about the experience. They were gracious and obliged me, so here they are.

On my way back to our campground, I looked for my writing in the sand. I thought I was past the point where I walked onto the beach from the campground and was disappointed that I hadn’t spotted my handy-work. Then, low and behold, there it was. Someone had taken my stick and added, “All the T” to my, “God is good.” I think they left the job of finishing the word “time” for someone else because they left the branch next to the T.

I can’t tell you how much it blessed me. I thought about finishing it myself but decided I’d let someone else reap the benefit of doing it.
Do you try to be a blessing to others? I can tell from experience that getting your mind off of yourself and doing good for others is the best way to receive blessings.
As Luke 6:38 of the New Living Bible says:
Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full — pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
Be a giver, and blessings will literally chance you down. If you enjoyed my story and would like to read more of my posts and those of thousands of other writers, become a Medium member for a $5.00 monthly fee.
