I’m Starting to Wonder; The Story of the Awesome Farm Cat

“I am certain that I have been here as I am now a thousand times before, and I hope to return a thousand times.”

Goethe

We have always had cats coming over from the farm across the road to visit. In the 30 years since we’ve lived here, there have been many cats come and go. Most times it's a good thing, as they help keep down the mice and they rarely go after the birds at the feeder. In that case, I would get upset. But this year, there has been a young female cat coming over since Spring. We call her Farm Cat; very original. Most of the summer and fall she would sit right by our sliding glass door and stare at me in my recliner. So cute. I finally gave in and started feeding her. Could it be someone reincarnated? Perhaps my Mom who passed in 2012? Or my Grandmother?

Don’t get me wrong, she is a feral cat. Pretty skittish but getting somewhat tamer. Not nearly enough though to be able to pet her. She will sit and watch what we’re doing; lately, she’s been watching us decorate for Christmas. She also loves to watch the aquarium, hoping for an extra snack. But mostly she is waiting for food. Or waiting for us to let her come into the house. There’s no doubt that she would come into the house in a flash.

Reincarnation Explained

Reincarnation is an interesting concept for sure. According to Wikipedia: Reincarnation, also known as rebirth or transmigration, is the philosophical or religious concept that the non-physical essence of a living being begins a new life in a different physical form or body after biological death.

Reincarnation (Punarjanma) is a central tenet of Indian religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism.

As an avid birder, I of course always wonder about the Cardinals when they visit my feeder. Cardinals are well known as “angels from heaven”; many believe they are reincarnated loved ones.

The idea of reincarnation is fascinating for sure. I wonder if we have a choice when we pass as to what we come back as. I wouldn’t mind coming back to be able to watch over my loved ones. How about you?
