Do We Need More Juice Or Wine?

A comedic question that has to be explored…

Photo by Taras Chernus on Unsplash

There are many different variables that project the results and answer to this question. Interestingly enough we will dive in and explore the reasons and influences behind the logic.

Culture

Based on what is tradition and what’s considered to be “the norm”, one culture would say that we need more juice. This would be because of nutritional value and making sure our bodies are healthy and well taken care of. On the other hand, it would be “juice” because we need more energy and strength to deal with the constant weight and pressure that life and society throws at us. Someone would say “juice” because we need to charge our electronic devices.

Someone else would say that we need more wine simply because this is a way of life for him or her… Maybe because they’re rich and that is the culture for the rich. Another person would probably say that we need more wine because they come from a culture or were brought up in a culture that heavily relies on wine as a tactic to help relieve stress or to help with conflict and or anger or complement a meal.

Depending on the race or nationality of an individual, the answer to this question can be very complex. For some blacks the answer is wine and for others it’s juice. The same concept applies to whites and Hispanics as well as Asians etc. The breakdown of this variable heavily relies on the economic status of people and their upbringing. For instance, the answer would be different with someone who was raised solely by their dad than someone who was raised solely by their mom or even someone who was raised in a two-parent household.

Gender

I would assume that boys would say we need more juice because they’re active and full of adventure. Girls would say that we need more wine because their minds are so much more advanced on a maturity level. The difference is that boys like to have fun and enjoy life while girls just like to sit around and fantasize about having a beautiful wedding and an amazing family and whether or not they want to be better than their moms. It is more common for boys to explore life and for girls to map out theirs. Boys tend to be more spontaneous and girls like to be more prepared for life’s challenges. This is not true for all gender… it could also be the other way around. This is just what is common around the world.

Country and Geography

In a third-world country, we would need juice because you would need nutrition to stay alive and to stay well or because you need energy and strength for the day and the next day’s work; gathering food and water. In Europe, we would need more wine because of the complement it gives to a full course meal or because this is the common way that people unwind or find their cooling-off points (adults not children). Also because “wine and strong drink” seems to be more of a commodity in the European culture more so than the American culture. The assumption is that in Mexico, the choice would be more leaning towards juice because food, shelter, clothing, and activities would require this substance. In Africa, the assumption would be that people need more juice. In America and Asia, the answer is a little more complex. In Switzerland, the assumption would be that we need more wine; for similar reasons as the rest of Europe.

Religion

This is a hard one because in the bible it says that Jesus drunk wine but, we are instructed to not get drunk and stay sober. Other religions I’m sure encourage or teach beings to not drink or not be intoxicated. We would have to explore this topic a little more. It is obvious that the answer to this question from a religious standpoint is leaning more towards people needing juice rather than people needing wine; although wine isn’t harmful as long as it isn’t being excessively used or overly ingested.

If you’re an atheist then you would have more of an individualistic perspective and take a more unique approach to deciding if drinking wine is a need or a want. Now this conversation would be more geared towards whether or not a person’s need or want is more important. Science can somewhat play a part in answering this question along with religion as well. Do we enjoy wine more than we enjoy juice or is it the other way around?

Personal Experiences

The answer to this question from this perspective would be based upon whether wine was a gateway that lead someone to becoming an alcoholic. This also could be a nice way to relax after a meal or after working the 9 to 5. Special occasions and events are reasons that people would say that we need more wine. A child at a birthday party would say that we need more juice. Children love sugar. An adult at a birthday party might say that we need more wine. During social gatherings, many people would have different answers to this question depending on their mood, preference, or even on what the group they’re a part of or hanging out with majority rules. The time of day, place or setting can be a huge influence and how we act around our peers, parents, and the rest of society.

Morals and Values

Our livelihood plays a huge role in what we decide to do think or be. Our upbringings can be a deciding factor because we are all taught what to like dislike or what to believe. We are told what is right and wrong and groomed into being what our parents desire for us to be. Choices are made for us throughout society before we even have the chance to think for ourselves. So is it safe to say that we are influenced to say one or the other? Maybe… because we are trained to decide what is politically correct, what is ethical, what is just, what it is to be smart, or what it is to be reckless. We decide every day what is most important to us at a particular moment in time. So, some people would say we need more wine while others would say we need more juice.

Technology

Apple Android Google and Samsung say it all. It is obvious that this particular category would say that we need more juice. The meaning of juice in this instance is energy and power. In order for us to partake in this amazing space, we must have energy and power so that we can run and recharge these electronic devices. We’re so consumed by this new space we call technology in this 21st century that we need this space to function and operate in nearly every angle of our lives. This applies to work home and play for adults and children alike.

I mean let’s be honest… we use Google to search everything, YouTube to learn everything, and Instagram and Facebook to fabricate our lives and stories. We use smartphones/smart TVs tablets and laptops as a source of communication and entertainment. After careful consideration and research, it is safe to say that in this regard we need more juice. Juice is the lifeline of technology and the internet because in the last 25 years it has become our way of life. I’m sure we can all if not most of us remember what life was like in the 80s and 90s.

Generation

Baby Boomers, Gen-X, Millennials, and Gen-Z. Every one of these generations would have a different answer because their outlooks on life is different from one another. Gen-X grew up in the 80s before the internet existed. During this era many people were infatuated with boxed haircuts boomboxes(portable battery-operated radios/cassette player) and Reebok shoes. Hip-hop culture also took off in the 80s paving the way for future rappers and MCs to create style and genre after the pioneers of hip-hop. In this case Gen-X would say that we need more juice. The Baby Boomers grew up in the 70s when afros disco dancing and the hippie movement took over. The 70s was more of a revolutionary time when people were really trying to define and find themselves. In this scenario I would conclude that Baby Boomers would say that we need more wine.

The Millennials grew up during the 90s when “gangster rap” Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls (Notorious BIG), Hispanic Queen of Tejano music (singing sensation) Selena Quintanilla Perez, pop culture and the internet came on the scene. The 90s was the beginning of the world-changing because of the birth of the internet and the rise of peace and prosperity. AOL, Windows 95, Sega Genesis changed the whole dynamic of people’s mindsets. It was a time and era that focused more on making money, change, inventions, and having fun. Millennials I would have to say grew up during the most influential era of all time. In this case I would say that Millennials would say we need more juice. Now we’re living in the time of Gen-Z. Based on what was previously stated about our use of technology, it is safe to say that Gen-Z would say we need more juice.

Conclusion

After exploring the world through generations and religion and culture, it is concluded that whether or not we need more juice or wine is a very complex answer. It is also a fact that after weighing all options reasoning and logic, research shows that the world and humanity need more juice than wine. What would life be like without wine? I’m not sure what issues would come from wine not existing but maybe people will use other forms of alcohol. This would certainly be a rabbit hole that I’d rather not go down but we apparently need juice more so than wine. If we don’t need wine more than juice, maybe we could use yoga and prayer as a solution for stress relief.
