Do Not Fear God Rejoices Over You

You never sing alone when singing praises to our God.

The book of Zephaniah in the Old Testament is but three chapters. It contains a message appropriate for us during a pandemic. The Jewish people were experiencing destructive times. I know I’ve never seen the destructiveness that Covet-19 has wrought on the world. But in terrible times, God assures us of His unfailing love.

The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17

Zephaniah’s words influenced reforms in Judah. They addressed impending judgment for the continued sin of the nation. But they were not to fear. The day was coming when disaster would be no more. Then God would again rejoice over His people.

The days of severe loss, hardship, destruction, and death will soon be over.

We’re not living under King Josiah. But we live in tumultuous worldwide times during which God’s attitude has not changed.

Read the verse again from Zephaniah. God has promised to, “…quiet you with His love…” God will quiet our fears of Covet-19, and give us hope for the future.

He continues to rejoice over you and me and all who have called upon His name.

Take comfort; God sees, hears, and answers our cries.

It is one thing to be glad about someone. But to burst into songs of rejoicing over the relationship takes it to a new level!

Amazing God takes note of us. He knows our names.

Imagine the mayor of your city rejoicing over the fact that you know him or her? The mayor might be happy. But to bellow out in song over your knowledge of him or her, it’s not going to happen! Much less the governor of your state or region and not the leader of your nation. No, it is not the applause of men that assures our eternal destiny, but God’s continued songs of redemption over us.

He rejoices with gladness and singing, bringing a supernatural calmness to our soul. There is a tranquil place that awaits us in His presence.

Leave the hustle and bustle of worldly pursuits. Then find solitude in God’s reassuring peace. In quietness is where the songs of heaven penetrate the veil between the soul and spirit. God fills us again with His Spirit. Feasting on His word and listening to His voice imparts strength for our journey.

Thousands of years later, God continues to sing over those who belong to Him.

It has been thousands of years since Zephaniah wrote these words. But the years have not changed God’s tune. His song is ageless. It’s a redemptive melodious composition reveling in the fact that we are His and He is ours!

Oh, what a wonder that God sings over us. Yes, He does.

God has promised never to leave us nor forsake us and to be with us to the end. Suffering is for a while, but joy comes in the morning. I like how Helen Keller puts suffering in its place.

“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”

  • Fill us with the freshness of Your song.
  • Help us join in with heaven’s choir, filling our space on earth with the melodies of heaven.
  • Rejoicing in trouble is never easy, but you never celebrate alone. God is singing along with you.
