So you can do a bunch of easy things for the rest of your life.

Why do we do this to ourselves?
Partly because society conditions us to chase superficial goals like money, fame and status.
But also because we lack the discipline to delay gratification.
We choose quick fixes over long-term fulfillment.
This needs to change if we want to live happier lives.
The Problem with Instant Gratification
Technology gives us instant access to pleasure.

Click “buy” for a dopamine hit.

Endless entertainment options.
Hyperpalatable processed foods full of sugar, fat and salt.
Advertising stirring up feelings of inadequacy.
Social media highlighting glamorous lifestyles.
These inputs subconsciously pull our attention towards quick dopamine hits.
We can’t control all the inputs in modern life, but we can control which ones we voluntarily expose ourselves to.
Be vigilant about your information diet.
Follow people on social media who inspire growth rather than envy.
Cancel streaming services wasting your time.
Install website blockers to reduce mindless browsing.
Unsubscribe from promotional emails tempting unnecessary purchases.
Avoid unhealthy foods that hook rather nourish you.
Proactively seek out inputs that support your long-term fulfillment.
Read books about personal development.
Listen to podcasts from people who push your thinking.
Interact with people who hold you accountable.
Use apps that encourage healthy habits.
Garbage in, garbage out.
By consciously filtering your inputs, you’ll effortlessly create outputs aligned with your values.
Commit and Get Support
Shifting from instant gratification to long-term fulfillment requires both internal and external change.
Internally, decide firmly what your priorities are and where you want to be 5 years from now.
Envision that future life in vivid detail.
Make this vision more compelling than any short-term pleasure that would knock you off course.

Do this for 5 years and your life will be unrecognizable in the best way possible.

Previously hard things like exercise, social situations and creative output will start to feel easy.
You’ll tackle challenges with vigor rather than anxiety. You’ll radiate positivity that pulls people towards you.
Pleasure and true fulfillment will be aligned in your life at last.
Everyone wants an amazing life
Yet few choose to do the work and face the struggle required to create it.
