Divinely Decreed: Sagittarius Season Forecast

Astrology was once the realm of magicians and kings. The planets moved in time with the gods, laying a path divinity. Celestial events guided the fate of nations, the rise and fall of empires.
But now the stars have been replaced by microchips and nuclear arms. The gods are dead and we have killed them. Whether or not the greatness of this deed is in fact too great for us remains to be seen but for the vast majority, divinity is no longer the ultimate prize. It’s power.
Sagittarius has a reputation for questioning the status quo. After peering into the depths of Scorpio Season, Sagittarius refuses to go quietly into the dark night. As the sign of higher wisdom and philosophy, Sagittarius takes nothing at face value: power means nothing if the one wielding it has not been divinely decreed. As we move into the Season of the Archer, our bow is pulled taut. The only question is to which truth does it point?
This season highlights the end of the Gemini Sagittarius nodal axis, encouraging us to release the tensions we’ve carried for the last 18 months. When the Sun moves into Sagittarius on the 22nd it almost immediately aligns with the South Node, a point also known as the Dragon’s Tail, illuminating the wreckage of a tumultuous few years. With the Dragon’s Head focused on rapid change and new horizons we may not have spared much thought to what we leave behind. And as Chiron steps backwards towards Saturn, the emotional resonance of our actions comes under the microscope. For the rest of the month, this dance between the Sun, Saturn, Mercury, and Chiron intensifies, each planet switching partners, each one asking us to drop a piece of ourselves behind so that we may be lighter on our feet.

It may turn out to be a rehearsal for the Solar Eclipse on December 4th. If you haven’t yet dropped the ties that bind, you may find yourself forced into release. Eclipses are traditionally malefic by nature, historically seen as moments of chaos and crisis challenging best laid plans. Modern astrology has softened its view considerably, but eclipses are still a deviation. They return us to a primal state thrusting emotions and instincts into the spotlight often at the expense of our cultivated selves. With our hearts already wringing for release, you may find yourself in a state of flight — even if you’re naturally more of a fighter. This eclipse also comes during Mercury’s opposition to Lilith rubbing salt in the wounds we’ve accrued from lies and deceit. Under normal celestial circumstances we might convince ourselves that the truth was not ours to have, or it was for our own protection but the Dragon’s Tail sweeps away human social conditioning leaving us raw and wild. Use this ferocity to reclaim the truth.
Mars, still at home in Scorpio, moves into aspect with Underworld King Pluto on the 6th to ensure we don’t lose momentum. Pluto can hold space for deep transformation, pulling collective shadows into the public eye so they may be seen and sorted and as it comes to the end of its time in Capricorn, we continue to see how stability and authority have been warped around us. Pay attention to themes of scarcity and lack for the next few months: Pluto will trine the North Node when it moves into Taurus, an aspect that perfects mid-February of 2022. This nodal axis shift will call for a redefinition of security for many, especially with the involvement of Uranus, which remains in the sign until 2026. Use aspects like this month’s Venus conjunction with Pluto on the 11th to simplify and clarify your priorities: Venus can demand decadence and excess, but in Capricorn (where she’ll remain until March of 2022 ) she takes pleasure in simplicity. Disentangle status from the material — your possessions, your title, your bank balance — and elevate what’s left.
Mercury joins Venus in Capricorn and Mars blazes new trails into Sagittarius on the 13th providing us with the Divine Decree we’ve been waiting for. Capricorn’s utilitarian sensibilities imbue each word and every step with intention while Mars assures the compass points to our true north. For many, the holidays may be a season synonymous with indulgence but this year feels more like a call to action. Get a head start on your New Year’s Resolutions, but make sure they actually serve your highest potential.

The Full Moon on the 19th gives us new insight on our own blockages. Full Moons are always a challenge, an examination of where our internal and external worlds are out of alignment. But this Moon arrives with aspects between it’s own ruler, Mercury, and Chiron, as well as two retrograde stations for a new point of view. Where have we allowed the perspective of others to alter our truth? How have we replaced our faith in ourselves with belief in others? Just hours later, Venus stations retrograde at 26 Degrees of Capricorn, a point tied to the exploration of self-sabotage along the path of individuation. Venus speaks directly to our desire for peace and love as well as the things we’re willing to do to achieve them: over the course of the retrograde, look around you to see where you’ve outsourced your own authority and which steps to selfhood you’ve sacrificed along the way. Chiron’s retrograde in Aries may reveal unacknowledged wounds that influenced this process.
Sagittarius Season comes to a close with a wink from Uranus who re-enters as a star player in the last weeks of the year. This has been a year of Highly Unusual Expression after a year of Highly Unusual Astrology, and Highly Unusual is one of Uranus’ favourite titles. The Sun slips into Capricorn while Mercury holds firm under Uranus’ gaze reminding us that it’s time we embraced the unexpected and let go of that which anchors us in familiarity — perhaps the most unexpected of all is the familiarity we’ll rediscover on the other side.
