Directing Change
The morning after
The breeze was mild but had just enough force to clear the air of the stench from the night before. But the morning brought with it a sorrow that the wind could not blow away. The sunshine and blue skies would normally be cause to rejoice but today everyone’s gaze was down at the ground.
It is said that a democratic nation’s leadership is a reflection of the people. Yesterday the people looked in the mirror and saw something very ugly and they realized that they had been acquitting themselves for behavior that was not in the best interests of themselves or the nation or the planet. Payment was coming due for their mass descent into actions while remaining oblivious of the consequences. People began realizing that they needed to initiate change within themselves before the leadership would ever reflect a similar change.
Many had already begun their changes but not enough to tip the scales. Too many were still stuck in the mind trap of oblivious mass consciousness; still sleepwalking through the madness, still buying what they were being sold. While the herd mind of the lemmings directs them to the edge of the cliff the voices of those calling them back is barely heard.
It started out as a very sad day but it was positive in that many suddenly awoke and disconnected from their unconscious lives. There is nothing like a tragedy and a good look in the mirror to wake people up and initiate positive action and a change in direction.
As the old institutions crumble we can cry out in rage but we must also start working on creating new institutions. Immediately. Drastic change is happening and it must be embraced to facilitate smooth transitions. The result of the changes will reflect both how stubbornly we clung to old thinking as well as how eagerly and joyously we opened up to new thinking.
What we see is what will be. Can we see the opportunities open up as the old thinking crumbles? Can we focus on that? And can we take personal action?
It all starts at the bottom and moves upward. We must all be our own leaders.
