Dilemma of writing on Medium part 2:
Every writer on Medium spends at least five hours daily on this platform. It takes two to three hours to write an article to be published. A minimum of two hours are needed to interact with other writers to get views, reads, and responses for your article.
Five hours is a long time to spend on any work daily. It’s just like a full-time job to write on Medium. It’s more time-consuming as you have to read the works of other writers as well because without doing so you can do nothing on Medium, no matter how good and effective your writing is! It’s a must for writers great or small.
In spite of spending so much time, what writers are getting from Medium in return is an important question.
Only 6% writers are earning over $100 per month, other 94% are unable to touch $100 figure per month. They remain below $100 every month.
It means Medium will not make you rich, it can give you only a bit extra income. Truly speaking the earnings of most of the writers here on Medium are not worth the time and effort they put into writing an article. Writers are especially gifted people and they are different from others in many ways. The reward of writing should also be handsome and worthwhile.
The question here arises how much Medium is earning every month. Over 100 million users are on Medium. They are working here as writers and readers. But Medium is not giving them the due share in earning.
Medium’s earning algorithm reminds me of a poem in which the poet describes the phenomena of rain. The poet says upper leaves are like rich people, they take full advantage of rain directly and give drop after drop to the lower poor leaves. In the same way, Medium takes full advantage of its users. It gives writers drop after drop, but it is taking full advantage of the work and effort of its writers who are working diligently for the success and glory of their favorite platform. But I think perhaps Medium does not recognize the services of the writers who are working day and night for this platform. No platform or website can exist without the active participation of visitors and users. Every website strives hard to bring traffic to its content so that it may achieve success.
It’s not fair on the part of Medium. It seems to me a kind of exploitation.
You are earning millions because of the writers and readers working here. But you are not willing to give them the
due share.
Because of so low income, many writers are leaving or planning to leave this platform. They are looking for other better options where they can get due rewards for their work, time, and energy.
I know some well-known writers who have left this platform for good as they found new and better options. Many others are looking for brighter prospects.
Medium should reconsider its earning mechanism. The writers deserve more and they should be given their rightful share.
I’m writing here not for income but just for writing’s sake. I write because I enjoy writing. I write for other benefits of journaling. It alleviates stress and depression. It’s better to express your bottled up emotions. It gives you a kind of catharsis.
Gratitude journal is even more useful for your mental health. It keeps you relaxed and focused.
Thank you for reading, your feedback is warmly welcomed and anxiously awaited!
