Did You Know, Dementia Series (Sleep)
A short poem about how Dementia kills sleep patterns.
Eight hours of sleep became a thing of the past lately am thankful for five or six a night sometimes with interruptions, there is less exhausted, no matter how much I detest dementia does its thing causing much unrest it causes sleep issues in its victim rampant thoughts tears at the brain with little to no control feels tormented sleep is a necessity and not highly overrated is vital for the mental and physical like gold to the brain and the body dementia can make its victim tireless rendering all those around the same dementia causes rampant thoughts, no sleep like a wild horse, will not let the mind be all hours screaming or just talking aloud fills the entire house with unnerving words and sounds in the quietness of the night, yelling fills the space just as the others settle in for a good night’s rest the demented tormented causing much unrest next morning all is quiet, demented sleep others can barely function, no sleep gotten there has to be a better day and better way manage the demented during the day permit little napping, too much gets in the way limit screen time before bed, it affects the brain no stimulants like caffeine, ill behavior will reign in the stillness of the night, add meditation music add a hint of light to the room, and speak in a calm voice, “ good night” exit the room, pray for eight hours of sleep that dementia will allow, as you in your bed leap.
