Did Instagram’s 6-hour Outage Lead To Entrepreneurs Losing Money?
I thought my Instagram was hacked into or my phone stopped working right when Instagram said poor connection and I couldn't refresh my feed.
After two hours I decided to Google if social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook were not working? I read that it was not. It wasn’t long before my friends sent a group chat text message saying that platforms such as Facebook, What’s App, and Instagram were not working.
The Facebook stock went down 5.5 % due to the outage & Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg lost about 7 billion dollars.
A lot of businesses depend on social media for network marketing and income. Social Media stopping for even one minute could affect the pockets of entrepreneurs and online businesses. But how severe was the last outage?
I read that the cause of the outage was a faulty configuration change. It was mayhem for people who depend and rely on social media for just about everything. I saw comments stating “the end of the world is among us” and people degrading anyone who has some form of income from social media platforms.
Bloomberg reported that Netblocks, a data-driven online service that monitors internet outages that the global economy lost 160 million for each hour the outage lasted. Memes about the outage came to follow instantly when it was all back to normal.
Facebook issued an apology and blamed the problem on routers that coordinate traffic between data centers. The CEO of the internet infrastructure provider Cloud Flare denied these claims. Facebook is already in a crisis by a former product manager named Francis Haugen who provided the Wall Street Journal with internal documents about the company. She went public for 60 minutes to expose the company. She said the company puts astronomical profits before people. Mark Zuckerberg fired back saying that Haugen can’t be trusted because she painted a “false picture of the company.”
There are about 3 billion users on Facebook which goes to show how much this outage affected people.
Remember the same way people may have lost money on social media is the same way it can all be made back. Even though this outage was a setback for Entrepreneurs and network marketing company’s, they still can make their money back, if not more once the social media platforms get restored.
Other Platforms
Most of us understand that there are other platforms such as TikTok and Twitter or Snapchat etc. to get on, but people did not want to hear that. Just by seeing some of the comments, people were upset over this 6-hour outage.
I started smiling at how upset people got over something they have no control over. I’m not trying to downplay social media because some of us rely on it in some form whether it’s entertainment, posting photos, or income and news. I completely understand how upsetting it can be and I’m also someone who uses it to promote my articles, but also this is why I don’t believe in giving up my day job & stock investments because you just never know what can happen.
