Summary

Hillary Clinton has been confronted with accusations of supporting war crimes and genocide due to her stance on Israel's military actions in Gaza, which has sparked public outrage and protests against her at various events.

Abstract

Former U.S. Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has faced significant backlash over her support for Israel's military operations in Gaza. Activists and protesters have repeatedly disrupted her public appearances, labeling her a "war criminal" for her perceived role in enabling what they describe as genocide in Gaza. During a conference in Berlin, Clinton was challenged multiple times by attendees who criticized her for financing the alleged genocide while simultaneously advocating for women's rights. The protesters highlighted the hypocrisy and double standards of Western nations, which support Ukraine's territorial liberation but deny the same right to Palestinians. Clinton's responses, affirming Israel's right to self-defense and expressing concern over the high casualty toll, have failed to quell the criticism. The controversy has followed her to academic settings, such as Columbia University, where she was met with demonstrations and chants of "shame on you" for her stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Opinions

  • Activists accuse Hillary Clinton of complicity in Israel's genocide in Gaza due to her support for Israel's military actions.
  • Protesters believe that Clinton's advocacy for women's rights is undermined by her backing of military interventions that result in civilian casualties.
  • There is a perception of hypocrisy in Clinton's stance, as she acknowledges the loss of life among Jewish people but is seen as ignoring the plight of Palestinians.
  • Critics point out Western double standards for supporting Ukraine's efforts to reclaim its territory while not affording Palestinians the same support.
  • Some argue that the high number of casualties in Gaza is a direct result of the wars that Clinton has supported, including those in Afghanistan, Iraq, and throughout the Middle East.
  • Protesters assert that the U.S., under the guise of promoting human rights, is actually more concerned with maintaining hegemonic power in the region.

Did Gaza End Hillary Clinton’s Career?

Activists to Hillary Clinton: “You are a war criminal”

“You are a war criminal” is a phrase that has been chasing former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in every forum she attends. Like her most current and former political officials in America and Europe, she has been exposed as the Gaza war has opened all files, and none of them will be “celebrated” without hearing it until they die, “You are a war criminal”!

Hillary Clinton, a former US secretary of state and presidential candidate in the 2016 elections, faced a scathing attack for her support of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza since last October.

A video posted by activists on social media platforms showed Clinton being interrupted about seven times while speaking at a conference organized by the Cinema for Peace Foundation in the German capital Berlin last February.

During one of the conference sessions, the organizer asked Clinton: “Are you not shocked by the high casualty toll in Gaza?” Hillary replied, “Of course, I’m not shocked, because that’s what happens in wars. But I am troubled by this high number, and Israel has the right to defend itself, but we must also expect that Israel will do anything.”

It’s funny that the occupying power, Israel, has the right to defend itself. But Palestinians who have been occupied for 75 years don’t have the same right!

We are watching genocidal cinema

Here, one attendee interrupted her by saying that “Israel is not defending itself, it is the genocide that you finance, and then you talk about women’s rights? Are you serious? What rights for women are you talking about? There is genocide being committed by the United States of America and the government that you are on its side.”

The woman continued her harsh criticism of Clinton, “Now you talk about cinema for peace, we are watching genocidal cinema, you should be ashamed of yourself! You are not a woman! You are not human! Be ashamed of yourself! Free Palestine! You have blood on your hands!”

As the guards escorted the woman out of the hall, one of the attendees rose up attacking Clinton, saying, “You are responsible for killing hundreds of Pakistanis, you have supported the wars in Afghanistan, in Iraq and throughout the Middle East.”

Hypocrisy and Double Standards

“You are a war criminal, you are a hypocrite, shame on you, shame on you all because of the number of dead, are their numbers small because they are in the east. Freedom for Palestine. Stop firing now.”

Clinton went on to say that “the greatest loss of life for the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” and a third person attacked her, saying, “How dare you talk about human rights, while Palestinians are being killed, all you care about are hegemonic rights, shame on you, shame on you, freedom for Palestine.”

According to the international law, both Gaza and the Ukrainian territories taken by Russia are occupied. While the West supports Ukraine to liberate its land, it prohibits Palestinians from liberating theirs. That’s the double standards that will eventually destroy the Western civilization.

This is not the first time the former US secretary of state has faced a fierce attack over her stance on Israel’s nearly six-month-old war on the Gaza Strip.

On 30 November 2023, she was harassed and chanted by a group of student protesters opposing the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip as she left Columbia University in New York.

According to the British newspaper “The Independent”, Clinton, who teaches at the university, was met with chants of “shame on you, shame on you” as she left a building, and footage showed students sitting in front of a large sign that read “Colombia’s hands are stained with blood,” and as she passed by, they shouted “You support genocide.”

The footage also showed dozens of students chanting for the 2016 presidential candidate as she was surrounded by many people and walked down the aisle.

Days earlier, students from the university protested during a lecture Clinton was giving on women’s participation in peace processes, where about 30 students stood up, collected their computers and backpacks, and joined dozens of other demonstrators who gathered in the lobby of the university building, protesting the American position on the war in Gaza.
