Diane Overcash is My Real Name
An introduction
I am an old woman. Seventy years old, to be exact. Yay! I made it. There were times when I had some doubts. It took a while. And there are times when I feel like I’m just getting started.
I am single, never married. I have no children of my own. That sets me apart from a lot of society. I don’t mind that. I am left out of conversations about raising children, and dealing with husbands. My family life is immediate family and close friends. I have no regrets.
So here we all are. I’ve read that what a person does is not who they really are. Well, I disagree. What a person chooses to do or not do tells a lot about them. Here are some things I do.
I love music, all of it. I play a little bluegrass and old-time fiddle. I know about 8 chords on the guitar 5 chords on the ukulele.
I paint and owned a gallery at one time. I was a school teacher in the inner city of Winston Salem.
I’ve lived in Europe and on the West Coast. I flew to Germany after graduating from college. I had about $100 cash in my pocket and a round trip ticket. Whoopie Goldberg was my neighbor when I lived in San Diego.
I do some acting in our neighborhood theater, when they let me. I’ve been in a Hallmark Christmas Special starring Kristin Chenoweth.
Writing was on my bucket list. My first piece I wrote for Medium is a memoir. I am very proud of this piece. It tells a lot about me.
I look forward to more writing and more living. Gonna straighten my crown and get on with it.
