DEP Photo Column — Seeing The Truth
What do you see when you look at me?

Look at these roses, they’re dead so they will be thrown in the garbage.
What do you see when you look at it?
I see a flower that shares beauty, and fragrance, gives smiles, shows love, and brings joy to many, especially on St Valentine’s Day, Birthdays, Anniversaries, and whatever occasion humans want to celebrate.
We give roses to our loved ones for whatever reason. After they serve their purpose, they are discarded in the trash. Roses are one of the most beautiful plants that tell the painful truth about life. Plants tell us the truth that beauty fades and won’t last forever. Humans seek and search for the truth that sometimes is already in their hearts.
Which is the last place they often look.

Does life tell us the truth? Or can we look at what is facing us and determine that what we see is the truth?
I don’t believe him,” Warren protests.
“Why not?” Dennis demands. “You have no proof or evidence that Michael is dishonest or is lying.”
“And you can’t see the truth either,” Collin adds.
“I can see the truth!” Warren defends. “But you can’t?”
“How?” Dennis questioned.
“Yeah,” Collin adds. “How can you see that he is lying?”
“He couldn’t give us eye contact. He has changed the price three times. He told us to call him and doesn’t answer his phone,” Warren points out.
“What if he is busy?”
“We are his business partners. When we call, if he can’t answer, then he should as soon as possible. We are the ones always calling him. Are you guys that blind?” Warren refreshes their memories.
“Damn, he’s right!” Collin said after the reality hit. “He has been avoiding us for a month now,” his memory reminds him.
“Did you pay yet?” Dennis asked his eyes on Warren. Fear rushed to the surface as his memory reminded him of the importance of the success of this business deal and how it would affect his ability to pay his mortgage and property tax.
“When he changed the price for the third time, I decided to do some investigation into his business dealings with McDermott Industries,” Warren informs them.
“But they filed for bankruptcy two days ago!” Dennis shared.
“And the Federal Government is investigating them and some of their business dealing for fraud!” Collin adds with popped eyes staring at Warren.
“Your money is safe,” Warren notified. “I didn’t send it. I need to see the truth before he gets another penny from us.”
Sighing deeply in relief, Dennis said in gratitude, “Thank you for saving our lives,” curiosity lined his face and he asked, “How can you see the truth?”

“It comes in actions, choices, and decisions. How many humans live their lives, dress, eat, communicate, who they associate with, and more? It’s there, visible for you to see, identify and understand,” Warren explains.
“You got to teach us how to identify the truth?” Dennis begged.

“Sorry, but I can’t,” Warren refused.
“But someone taught you,” Collin argues.
“I agree,” Dennis adds. “It’s natural that you pass the knowledge on.”
“Yeah,” Collin agrees. “Who taught you to see the truth?”
Warren smiled, waltzing back into his life as the memories watered his brain like water-feeding thirsty plants, “Life taught me,” he said. “Life showed me how and where the truth lives.”

Two pairs of eyes popped, and then Dennis said, “But we are older than you.”
“Yeah, how come life taught you and didn’t teach us?” Colin asked.
“Because I listened when life speaks. You don’t!”
Colin and Dennis exchanged glances, and then Dennis asked, “How does life speak?”
“Life speaks in the actions, choices and decisions of humans, plants and animals,” Warren educates. “And the best part, life always tell the truth because no matter what our mouth or actions says, the heart knows the truth!”

“Like you knew something was burning in hell by Michael’s actions?” Dennis questioned.
“So seeing the truth is like looking at a picture of the past,” Colin comments in deep thought.
“Right,” Warren adds. “We can look at an image of ourselves and others and see the truth.”

Her power of words sends my brain deeper.
Another way I take pictures at weddings is by catching moments when the couple is just enjoying each other, not thinking about anything else. I use a special lens that works like a friendly spy, getting those real smiles, quiet talks, and looks that say a lot without words. I let them be themselves in the beautiful outdoor surroundings and snap pictures as they make their love story. — Elvie Lins
Isn’t her power of words and actions bbbeeeaaauuutttiiifffuuulll and truthful? Images, often speak the truth. Twenty years later you can look back at happiness or sorrow. Love or hate. Tears or laughter and see the truth or lies.
Not all of us want or can see the truth. But it’s in everything.
Some of us listen to life and learn from everything that we encounter. Others don’t! When we listen to life our awareness expands. We can see things others can’t see or understand. Most importantly, we can see the truth and the lies as they approach. Roses are bbbeeeaaauuutttiiifffuuulll but have thorns. Can you look at a rose and see its thorns?
