Summary

Dancing Elephants Press (DEP) is implementing changes in 2023 to foster a stronger community among editors, writers, and readers, including new recognition programs and video interviews.

Abstract

Dancing Elephants Press (DEP) has announced upcoming changes aimed at enhancing the sense of community within its publication. Since its inception in October 2021, DEP has seen significant growth in its follower base and writer submissions. To capitalize on this momentum, DEP plans to introduce initiatives that will strengthen connections between editors and writers, as well as among writers themselves. These initiatives include video interviews with editors, which will be available on DEP's new YouTube channel, and a new monthly award system to recognize outstanding writers. The first award recipient will be announced on February 15th, and the recognition will include a video interview and an introductory piece about the winner. DEP encourages its readers and writers to engage with these new features and to support each other's work.

Opinions

  • The publication believes that community is paramount and should be built on connections and recognition of great writing.
  • DEP values the growth of its writer community and the improvement in submissions, indicating a positive response to their editorial approach.
  • The editorial team is optimistic about the changes, expecting them to create a more vibrant and interconnected community.
  • There is an emphasis on the importance of acknowledging writers' contributions through awards and public recognition.
  • The use of video media is seen as a modern and engaging way to introduce editors and award-winning writers to the community.
  • DEP encourages a supportive environment where writers are invited to highlight and tag each other's work.
  • The publication is committed to sending positivity into the world and appreciates the writers who contribute to this mission.

DEP Announcement: Changes, Do We Like Them?

🐘🐘Let’s hope so because your favorite publication is changing.

Did you say changes?

Since October of 2021, when our publication kicked off, it has gained more followers and writers.

Day in and day out, we see our writer’s submissions increasing and improving. As writers and authors, we know what it takes to receive inspiration and then put pen to paper (or fingers to keys, as it is).

In an editorial meeting before the end of 2022, it was decided that Dancing Elephants Press (DEP) would introduce several changes in 2023. Please understand we’re not making changes because we can; we’re making changes to create a stronger community between editors to writers, the Press to writers, and writers to each other.

Community

  • Community begins with knowing those within and then making connections with them. We have a plan.
  • Recognition begins with publicly acknowledging great writing written by great writers. We have a plan.

Over the next few weeks, DR Rawson will use video media for interviewing each of our editors. Those interviews can be found on our new YouTube Channel. You can click here to find our channel.

Our channel's content currently includes Dr. Gabriella Kőrösi introducing our Publication. She has also interviewed DR Rawson, our newest editor, who's also responsible for helping us build a strong community of writers.

Recognition

Medium has recognized great writers across the medium platform for several years. However, we get more people involved by constraining our awards to our DEP publication. Everyone that receives an award will also be interviewed on video, and one of our editors will write an introductory piece on the person receiving the award.

🐘🐘🎉🎉Our first winner for the January award will be announced on the 15th of February. 🐘🐘🎉🎉

The award can be pinned to the writer’s home page. The writer will become “the Elephant in the room.” Many people will acknowledge the award and want to chat with the winner.

Here is the award that we will be using in our monthly recognition:
