Summary

The author expresses skepticism about the effectiveness of democracy, questioning the requirement for all citizens to vote on complex issues regardless of their understanding or expertise.

Abstract

The article titled "Democracy Is Weird," found on the undefined website, presents a critical view of democracy. The author argues that democracy has a significant flaw in that it expects every individual to vote on matters they may not be knowledgeable about, such as politics or the economy. The author suggests that people have unique traits and expertise, and it may not be appropriate to involve everyone in decision-making processes that require specific knowledge. The piece also touches on the potential dangers of campaigning, likening it to brainwashing, and expresses concern that democratic processes prioritize the majority's desires over objective truths or the advice of experts. The author points out that laws historically were based on religious principles, but with the advent of democracy, these principles are being challenged and altered, leading to a life filled with risks and problems.

Democracy Is Weird

One of the major problems with democracy that I don’t really know why people care about that a lot.

I believe that every single human being is special, some people are born intelligent, some of them are generous, and many other unique traits in our society.

We do understand that so many people didn’t know about politics, the economy, or anything happening in the government.

But why you force them to vote for the things they don’t really know. Can you ask for advice about politics from the doctor? Maybe the doctor knows, but that’s not their speciality.

Do you feel like your opinions are crucial for your country or your community? So, you have to vote without any ideas?

I do agree with the concept of the vote, but we have to know who’s capable to do that, you just ask random people on every corner to do that.

Campaigning for your ambitions is the same as brainwashing. Telling people about kindness is different from telling people about ambition.

What I don’t like about democracy is that the majority won, and the truth isn’t their priority.

People always choose what’s beneficial for them, what they like. You know how dangerous it would be.

For example, if you want to regulate abortion, you should ask the doctor instead of random people to vote.

Maybe sex between brother and sister, dad and daughter, son and mother would be legal in the future if you want to vote for that, who knows.

Doesn’t care anymore about premature kids, because you can abort them very easily before they are born.

Believe it or not, the law in most countries is based on religion, western countries implement Christianity, south Asia implements Hinduism, the middle east implements Islam, and East Asia implements Buddhism.

But, we don’t believe it anymore, so we change the law with a new system which is democracy.

Democracy is good, but if you keep changing the law, especially the basic principle of life, your will face so many problems, and your life would be full of risk.
