Deliberately ignored by the ACA: HRC 91/100

27 October, 2016 | Index

Dear Hillary Clinton,

Gerard Mclean here, from Englewood, Ohio, about ninety miles east of Indianapolis. This is the ninety-first letter of one hundred I am writing you on health care; one for each day between your nomination and your election. The previous letters can be found in your USPS mailbox or online at 100HRC.com.

The news is all a flutter about the huge increases we are looking at for the health insurance plans in the ACA Marketplace. Insurance corporations are pulling out, leaving fewer options for all of us. Pundits and naysayers everywhere on the TV, newspapers and social are screaming, “I told you so!” at the top of their lungs, dancing with glee at our pain.

I’m guessing they all have solid insurance.

While the ACA may not be perfect, I find anyone taking pleasure in the pain of others the most repugnant thing anyone can do. Yet, here they are, proudly crowing on indelible video.

To me, Abby Norman is the face on an indelible video, a person the ACA “deliberately ignored.” http://bit.ly/HRC_abby I can’t shake this after having watched it. The ACA made a choice to not cover her.

Our highly-paid representative legislators, supposedly chosen for their superior problem-solving skills, made a choice. In the richest country in the world that could afford to cover everyone if it willed to, they made this choice to simply exclude some of us instead of finding a way to cover us all. The path forward might have been difficult, but the choice to exclude us was not a hard choice — it was easy and cowardly.

As you work to expand the ACA to include SinglePayer, MedicareForAll, UniversalCare Abby, me and so many, many others are the faces I want you to see. We are who you are fighting for, not an insurance corporate logo or balance sheet.

Regards,

Gerard McLean cc: Sen. Sherrod Brown
