Defining Moments in History
Let’s come together and celebrate the sandwich.
I just had the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the history of mankind. It was epiphanic, orgasmic, Shakespearean.
Wow, America.
Look, I get it; yes, there are watershed moments in the history of America. The Declaration of Independence. The Civil War. Pearl Harbor. The death of John Denver.
And now, my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
The only question that remains is whether we move forward or backward. Can America build on the legacy of this famous sandwich, or will we say this was the best we could be, so let's try something else, something evil?
You know, or should know that Donald Trump will outlaw peanut butter & jam sandwiches. Of course, he will. It is a symbol of American life as we know it.
Don't for one second believe you can sit on your laurels if you want to protect the secret of the most famous sandwich on Earth. You must know Trump will sell the secrets of our beloved sandwich to the Chinese, to Russia, to any dictator out there who wishes us harm. Nothing will weaken our military more than denying our servicemen their ration of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches.
So here’s the deal: maybe we should use this opportunity to spread the message of the sandwich to the world. We could open our arms and show the world that some things in America are not for sale, not to anyone by anyone.
Even Jesus didn’t think of peanut belly sandwiches for the Last Supper; that’s amazing. Are we going to let it go?
This sandwich could be the last hope for democracy.
Think about it, will you? Peanut butter is just the substance to stick the bread back together. Jelly is just the substance to make it tasty. As we move forward this day, I challenge each of you to live a life worthy of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
When you cannot talk to your neighbor, friend, or work companion, offer them a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. When laziness fills your legs, pain surges through your back, and doubt enters your conscience, cynicism darkens your soul; think of the sandwich. Think of the glories that we can achieve. Together. You. Me. Keeping our tradition safe, the peanut butter & jelly sandwich.
