Deep Thought Prompts For June
If you’re not overthinking some of them, you’re doing it wrong.

First, my usual spiel:
Hello Prompt Warriors and welcome to the next installment of my Twisted Thought Provoking Prompts!
I have painstakingly crafted this list over the course of several weeks to ensure there was a decent mix of things to coax you from your typical writing boxes and make you think. I did not go easy on you but I didn’t make it as diabolical as I could have.
A few reminders…
Nothing I do is accidental and nothing is ever quite as it seems. These prompts were designed through the use of psychology, philosophy, criminology, and obviously a few about animals. Some of them are simpler than others and some of them require a lot of introspection. All of them reveal something about you.
I am not going to be analyzing or judging your responses. There are no correct answers. Some of them don’t have answers at all. I do not provide a word maximum or minimum. If you need to argue with yourself in writing to make sense of something — DO IT.
My challenge to you all is to look BEYOND the prompt. Examine it. Each of them contains multiple options and follow-up questions and they are not meant to be wrapped up in a single paragraph. Think about them. Your mind will populate an automatic response based on what you’ve been taught. That’s when you should think about them again.
Dig deeper.
They are numbered but not ordered. I provided you enough to write one daily but you do not have to go in the order I put them in. Jump around as you see fit. Combine them if you’d like — they’re designed to allow for that. Though for a lot of them, that could make for a very long piece.
No one is forced to do anything so if a prompt really bothers you — skip it. But personally, I’d say that’s the prompt that is calling for you to respond to it the most. Challenge yourself to examine what you think, why you think it, and what things really mean.
Invite anyone you think may want something new to think about and write about to play along. And please add a link to this post so that others may join in the pure insanity!
Just remember… playtime in my sandbox often leaves you feeling dirty 😉 and this time around — there’s a subtlety involved where you may not be answering what you think you are. Many of them are asking something far more than what is written.
Happy writing!
June Prompts
- Write a letter to someone who is no longer in your life. This could be someone who has passed away, you lost touch with, had a fight with, or grew apart from… however they have left your life isn’t the point. Saying what you never did is the point. So say it. Even if… especially if… it’s coming from a place of unresolved emotions. Are you angry? Sad? Confused? Content? Do you miss them? Are you grateful for them? What is left behind? Put it to words.
- Nothing in the world is perfect. Yet perfect is a word. Define it. Describe what it means to you and tell me the closest thing to perfect you’ve ever seen or experienced. What made it so close to perfect? Then explain to me why we have a word and understanding for something that we have never and will never see… or do you think perfection does exist?
- Let’s go to Stepford! Design your ideal mate. Be detailed!! Physical. Emotional. Mental. Financial. Interests. Any and all aspects of a human that you can fit in — if you could create a person just for you — what would be included? Don’t simply describe the person you’re with. It’s not an insult to them to know that no one person could meet every possible thing that you like/want. Stepford ain’t a romance, darlings and I’m not asking you to tell me about your partner — I’m asking you to create one. Have fun with it. I’m giving you an endless man/woman menu to make a perfect human just for you. Get deep, be detailed, and really think.
- There are many examples in the animal kingdom that show adaptation. Talk about how a specific animal has adapted over time and what you find interesting about that adaptation. Then use it to talk about a time that you had to adapt to something. Did you do it? Or did the inability to adapt to something affect you in a deeper way?
- *YOU MAY NOT SAY SELF-DEFENSE* What would it take for you to be pushed to the point that you’d kill someone? Search yourself. Examine your stressors, what makes you angry, where is your breaking point, who matters to you more than prison — what would make you kill? If you think you never would — you’re not thinking hard enough. Humans are animals. We all have a line that we would not allow to be crossed. Find. Your. Line.
- The quote, “The more I learn, the less I know” has been attributed to both Socrates and Albert Einstein. No matter who said it — consider this quote and tell me your thoughts on the idea. Do you agree or disagree? Why? And if we learn more to know less — what does that say about education? Do you think people with advanced educations are more or less smart than those without them? Or does it even make a difference? Explain your response.
- Do you believe that psychics exist? If so — what is the reason behind this belief? Do you think that people who don’t believe in them are misguided and just haven’t found the right one? If not — do you think people who say they’re psychic should be charged with criminal fraud? Do you think that people who do believe in them are gullible or desperate? Spare no feelings. Just answer honestly.
- What in life is truly objective? Is anything… or is everything subjective? Explain your answer. Be prepared to defend your stance if something you claim as objective may not be. Not just from me — I fully encourage you to check each other’s work 😎. What does it mean for something to be objective vs subjective? Defend your thought process.
- When — if ever — is it ethical, necessary, or justified (whatever words you’d like to use) to charge a child as an adult for a criminal action? Why? Be detailed about the specific crimes and the ages at which this becomes your reasoning. If it’s never okay to charge a child as an adult — what do you think that says to the victims and their families of the crimes that were committed? Take a position and defend it.
- Think of an animal that you’re either afraid of or simply don’t like being around and research them. Then explain their importance to the ecosystem of the planet. Why do these animals exist? Are there any living things that do not serve a purpose at all? Explain. Try to teach the Mediumverse something that may not be obvious.
- There are several forms of intelligence. Robert Sternberg first categorized intelligence into three levels: Analytical Intelligence, Creative Intelligence, and Practical Intelligence. Howard Gardner later formed a list of nine levels of intelligence: Visual-Spatial, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Naturalistic, and Existential. Based on BOTH of these theories — what type(s) of intelligence do you possess? What made you choose them and how do you use them? For more information on the types, here are links for Sternberg and Gardner.
- Explain your views on white privilege. How does it affect you? How should it affect others? Do you think there is or ever will be a world in which such a term doesn’t exist/apply? If so — how do we get there?
- If a school shooting is committed by a kid (most of them are), should the parents be held responsible? Why or why not? And if so — what should the penalty be? Do you really think they don’t see it coming? If they don’t — is that negligence? If they do — is that aiding and abetting? Dog owners are liable if their dog bites someone so should parents be liable if their child shoots someone? How is it different? Defend your position.
- Do you believe in fate? How about soul mates? Are certain things meant to be? If so — do you also believe in free will? Can both exist at the same time? Explain your answer.
- Is there any such thing as a selfless good deed? Truly selfless — as in the act gives the person doing it absolutely no feelings of pleasure, kindness, worth, satisfaction, etc. Can anything in the world truly be unselfish? Explain your answer.
- What is more ethical — testing using animals or testing using criminals? For the purpose of this, we will assume the criminals being used ARE guilty and have committed atrocious acts of violence. I’m talking about both product and medical testing. Which would you want to happen? Explain your response.
- No matter what generation you are — give a detailed description of your opinion on the generation(s) that follow you. Do not hold back negatives. Do you think the human species is improving or declining? Explain your response.
- What do you think would be a good guideline to create a kinder world? Examples:— should everyone have to do some form of public service or charity work in their lifetime? Should everyone be required to work in customer service for at least a year? Should money be abolished to even the playing field? Should you have to take a test to be allowed to vote creating a world where only the most intelligent people decide who runs each country? Create any factors you want — this can go as far as you’re willing to take it up to and including selective breeding/killing… it’s up to you — what would make the world or even just the country — BETTER?
- Rape is highly underreported because of the nature of the crime. Victims are scrutinized, often not believed, and crucified in a courtroom based on what they drink or what they wear, their sexual history, their relationship (past or present) with the defendant, or any number of other factors. On the other hand — there are people who lie about being raped as vengeance. It’s a he said/she said crime. How can we improve the way that this crime is handled? Is it even possible? Explain your response.
- What is a soul? Do all people have one? What about animals? Do they have one? If so — how does the soul impact the person and/or animal that it’s in? If not — what makes people/animals who they are? *Note — I do not ask religion questions for my own reasons — this is not about religion — the soul is actually a philosophical concept in its own right. Explain this to me using solely your OWN THOUGHTS not what you have been taught through any religious principles.
- Crime fact — eyewitness descriptions of a perpetrator are highly unreliable and that lack of reliability increases exponentially if the witness is of a different race than the perpetrator. Explain this. Why can’t people accurately describe each other? Why is harder when they’re of a different race? And why — when this is a known fact — is it admissible in a courtroom? Give as much detail as possible to your answer. Up to AND including giving an accurate description (physical only) of someone you know. Make us visualize them. No pictures of them allowed. Good luck!
- What motivates you? List as many things as you want and put them in any order that you want but these must be things (or people) that push you to do things and try things and keep going when you do not want to. If you list something that only motivates you to do something you already want to do — you’re missing the point. What do you think the point actually is? 😎 After you examine this question and make your list — are there things that you can NEVER be motivated to do? No matter what? Are. You. SURE?
- What are your thoughts on violent video games and children? Does it affect them? If so — how? Should there be age restrictions? If so — what age and what level of violence needs to be present for the restriction? Be as detailed as possible in your exploration of what you think the effects are of violent video games on the mind and behavior of a child — at different ages. There may be a reason I’m asking this. 😉
- When — if ever — is it okay to lie? Do you consider yourself an honest person? Why should we believe you? Is it truly better to appease someone with a lie if the truth will hurt them? Do you think all lies will eventually be discovered? Does the truth always come out? Is there really any such thing as a COMPLETELY honest person? Explain every part of your response.
- Is it truly possible to forgive and forget? Can you do one without the other? What does it actually mean to forgive someone? Is it more for you or for them? Is there anything that is completely unforgivable? Explain.
- What do you think about beauty pageants? What about child beauty pageants? Do they help or harm the people who are in them? Neither? Both? Why? What about the people watching? Help, harm, neither, or both? Do they serve a purpose in our society? If so — what purpose? If not — do they cause harm to our society? How so? There are prizes and responsibilities involved but is there also damage? Which one outweighs the other? Go into as much detail as possible.
- Terrorists view themselves as fighters for a cause and they believe WE are the terrorists. How do we know we’re right and they’re wrong? Is there really such a thing as a terrorist? Is there really such a thing as a freedom fighter? Or are all humans capable of killing for a cause? Please explain.
- The breeding of endangered animals in captivity where they could never be released to the wild created a new class on the endangered list known as “extinct in the wild”. Is this better than extinct? Life in captivity as the only life these animals will ever know vs the animal no longer existing… Explain.
- How do you know what colors look like to someone else? If I point to something and say, “That’s blue” and you agree with me, it’s simply because we’ve both been taught that what we’re looking at is CALLED blue — but maybe what I call blue actually looks like what you call red. (This question isn’t completely about color, it’s about perception — how do we ever know if perception is universal?) Explain.
- Who would make a better leader — a male or a female? Take no prisoners, hold nothing back, do not care who it offends. You absolutely may not say that it depends on the person — you may only base this on gender. Pick a side and justify it. With as much detail as possible.
That’s it for this month! I hope you pushed yourselves. Come back for more twisted mindfuck prompts in July… and ya know… some animal ones too!
Don’t forget to tag me so I can read your responses!
