Deep Thinkers Put Depth Behind Their Headlines

How to improve your headlines (Extract the big ideas)

Extracting the big ideas from reading and turning them into great content is the key to improving your writing. It’s a nuanced process, but it can (and will) help you create headlines that grab attention.

This is how you write content that resonates with your audience, and market products or services more effectively.

Looking back, I realize that I have written some cringe-worthy headlines. It’s because I wrote them with a single thought rather than a thought process.

By understanding the framework, you can gain a better understanding of how to create compelling content.

In this article, I explain different ways in which you can extract the big ideas to improve your writing and make it more effective.

What’s The Issue

Writing a headline can be one of the most difficult tasks for content writers.

If the headline is not engaging:

  • Readers won’t click on it.
  • It doesn’t sell products.
  • Therefore, it’s not doing its job.

Unfortunately, many writers don’t understand how to write good headlines that will grab attention and get clicks. As a result, their content often falls flat and fails to meet their goals.

Practicing this skill takes time, and it’s still a work in progress for me. Once you learn new ways to approach it, your creative juices start flowing and allow you to unlock your writing protentional.

When you write engaging headlines:

  • You get more engagement in your writing.
  • get more clicks.
  • Therefore, make more sales.

Tips & Framework to Improve

  1. Read headlines every day (preferably from real writers or authors)
  • Pick them apart in your own words.
  • Try to understand the underlying meaning.
  • what emotions does it illicit?
  • why does it work with that specific subject matter?

2. read more books and write down the big ideas.

  • during each chapter, take a few notes on the biggest ideas.
  • When you’re done with the chapter, condense all of your sentences into one single sentence. It’s not easy at first, but this puts depth behind your thoughts.
  • Do this same process for your entire article. This is how to write a great headline.

3. Read landing pages and sales pages.

  • These are written by well-paid expert copywriters.
  • Take a moment to really dissect and learn what emotion they are trying to illicit from the reader.
  • Think about their target audience and the language they use.

4. Clean up your social media.

  • Ditch the people posting self-deprecating memes.
  • Follow helpful, kind people with growth mindsets. (I’m on Twitter if you want to follow me)
  • When you’re around garbage writing it might rub off on you. Stay clean my friends.

Conclusion

Not everyone wants to sell products with their writing. If you are writing and not selling anything, you are trying to sell yourself. You want to sell yourself to your readers and show them your writing is worthwhile and deserves attention.

Writing is an essential skill in today’s digital age (despite AI) and understanding how to write good headlines and use the right framework can help you sell yourself. With the right knowledge and practice, you can become a successful copywriter that can capture the attention of your audience.
