Deep Dive Prompt — “If”

Subhi Najar, one of the great Medium writers, started some challenges called “Deep Dive,” which he stated was “to create bridges with other fellow writers, open discussions, exchange experiences, and a safe place to safely share writings, minutes, and parts of the heart.”

These are my responses to the newest Deep Dive “If.”

If you had three superpowers, what would they be?

I would like to find a way to reduce or prevent wars.

Stay with me here, as this may be far-fetched, but what if I had the ability of levitation — to make things anti-gravity? I could lift tanks and other weapons and move them back to the originating county.

I wouldn’t want to hurt anyone, but picture tanks being gently lowered in the capitol of the originating country with a warning that next time they could be dropped from five thousand feet.

This would render weapons of destruction useless.

Or the superpower to change the weather. This one, I know, could have negative consequences. But picture rain over wildfires, reducing the forces of a hurricane or tornados.

And last, just for fun, the ability to change rocks into solid gold. Just kidding, but that would be a cool superpower.

If you could meet three celebrities of all time, who would you choose?

I started to say, Albert Einstein or Bill Gates. But not sure either qualifies as a celebrity. So, I’m going with Elton John, Oprah Winfrey, and Taylor Swift.

All three are people who are very talented and successful, but the reason I picked them. Out of all the celebrities in the world, these three are the top celebrity philanthropists.

Elton John for Aids research. Oprah for children, women, health, and education issues. And Taylor for helping flood victims, cancer research, and COVID research.

If your life were a novel, what would be its title?

“Old Man and the Sea” — No, wait, Hemingway used that already. How about “Sailor’s Redemption.”

If your heart were chocolate, what kind of chocolate would it be?

Simple — Dark Chocolate

If life were a dream, what would you do?

If we're going to dream, then dream big.

Feed the hungry, especially children. No person should go hungry or die from malnutrition.

We almost lost our home during the Witch Creek Wildfires, my Mom’s home was destroyed during Hurricane Michael, and my sister's home was flooded during Hurricane Ian. In my dream, we would solve or at least reduce the impacts of climate change.

Last, I would dream that the world could be at peace without wars.

If you had Aladdin`s lamp, what would be your three wishes?

See above.

If calories did not exist in life, would you still eat healthily?

Probably not. I see plates full of pasta, meat and potatoes, creams and cheeses, and sauces and throw out the low-cal dressings and Hot Fudge Sundaes but for every day, not just Sunday.

If you were offered three free airplane tickets to three different destinations, which would you choose?

I would trade the three tickets for two Business Class tickets to Japan, so my wife and I can go visit our Son and his girlfriend, Mayumi.

If you had to choose between a cup of happiness or a river of hope, which would you prefer?

Since a cup is only 8 ounces and a river is thousands of gallons — I would go with the River of Hope.

If you could make one decision to change the world, what would it be?

This is the hardest of the “IF” questions.

I’m not sure how binding any decision I made would be when we are talking about the whole world. But I would say that no country can go to war with another country.
