Deep Dive Into My Medium Writing

Writing On Medium Has Been An Adventure

As Subhi explained we are on a writing platform where we share our written words. This exercise should help us understand the creative process of our fellow writers. I enjoy reading the work of so many writers here on Medium, and I have learned so much from all of you.

1. When did you start writing? Is there a specific story? I kept a journal for most of my life, and I loved writing in school. English was my best subject. I started writing on Hubpages 15 years ago, and I tried writing on a couple of other sites too. I started writing on Medium in June 2022.

2. Do you have rituals in writing? If yes, then please share them with us. I am a morning person, so I usually write early in the day. If I am doing some challenge it typically doesn’t take long, but if I am writing a medical or even a human interest article I do a lot of research, so it’s time-consuming. I am very particular about providing accurate information.

3. The ugliest monster that writers are afraid of is writer’s block. If you have a recipe to deal with it, kindly share it with us. I read many other articles, and sometimes I write about someone I’ve met. I share a lot about myself too. I don’t often have writer’s block.

4. Describe the process of finding ideas for your stories. Please elaborate. I read many other articles, and I keep a document called “Plan Moving Forward”, so I write down topics when I get an idea. I always have a list. I think being organized is the key.

5. As humans, we suffer without knowing it by choosing not to move outside our comfort zone. Do you have a “comfort zone” in writing ( i.e a topic that you always like to write about)? Have you tried to step outside your comfort zone and write something drastically different? I like writing about medical problems or issues people have with life in general, like a toxic family member or friend. I don’t write poetry too often, and I don’t think I am very good at poetry. I have written some fiction but not too often. If I have a prompt for a fictional story I sometimes give it a try.

6. Besides Medium, do you use other writing platforms? Please share our experiences. As I mentioned in my first answer, I have written on Hubpages for 15 years. That site has changed, so I don’t like it as much anymore. We can no longer make comments, and they put all these advertisements throughout the articles. I wrote for a short while on Bubblews but didn’t care much for it.

7. Have you published a book? If yes, how and where…etc. Plz, feel free to share your links with us. No, I started writing a book twice, but I never finished either one. I did write a chapter for a nursing book once.

8. You write because writing provides you with something special. Could you share your experience? I love to write articles that help people. I love getting to know the writers on Medium. I have so met so many different types of people from around the world, and I find that stimulating.

9. Do you write a paragraph, a chapter, or a story with the end in mind or not? Please explain. When I write a fictional story or a poem, I don’t know the end until I get there. I know the end of it is a medical or human interest story.

10. Every writer has an idol. Who is yours? And what do you find inspiring in her/his trajectory? I have quite several Medium writers who inspire me: Subhi Najar, Nour Boustani, Yana Bostongirl, Linda Lum, Karen Schwartz., Dr. Preeti Singh, Natalie, John Hansen, Adrienne Beaumont, Trisha Faye, Deb Palmer, Grace Bianco, Jan Sebastian, Randy Pulley, Harry Hogg, Lu Skerdoo, Autistic Widower (“AJ”), The Sturg and so many more, who inspire me in different ways. I love the people here and their writing styles.

11. Does being on a writing platform like Medium help your writing plans? Plz, elaborate. I think being on Medium has been very inspirational. When I started writing here it was different from other sites, and I had a lot to learn about Medium. I don’t understand the algorithm, but who does? I simply plan to continue writing here, and I think it has been therapeutic for me in many ways.
