Decision Time
A one-line poem

In your not choosing, you chose.
“But I had no choice!”
Show of hands. How many times have we heard this over the course of our lifetime? Hell, some of us have probably even said it, more than once.
You always have a choice.
You may not like your other choices, but they are options nonetheless. Options. We all have them.
Time to stop blaming circumstances or even other people, and Adult Up. Take responsibility. Do what needs to be done.
In that vein, I have made a life-altering decision.
I will be officially retiring, in deed and action, not just word effective this week. I kept hoping that eventually, maybe, someday, I’d be well enough to go out on at least one last deployment.
I now have accepted my fate. In my not choosing to retire fully, I chose to continue to push myself beyond my new limitations. I did no one a service. I did myself a great disservice.
So I now choose to let go of what was and embrace the new what is.
