Summary

The website content announces a December writing celebration with a weekly word count challenge, starting with a 500-word story and decreasing each week, as a way to commemorate the end of a challenging year and the growth of the writing community.

Abstract

The December theme for the website is centered around celebration, acknowledging the difficulties of the past years and the potential challenges ahead. Despite this, the community is encouraged to focus on the positive aspects of life and the achievements within their writing circle. This month marks the end of their first full year of providing prompts, which has contributed to the community's growth and enjoyment. To wrap up the year in a festive manner, the website is reintroducing a popular weekly word count challenge, starting with a 500-word story and reducing the count by 100 words each subsequent week. This challenge is designed to inspire creativity and celebrate the art of writing, regardless of the season's busyness or geographical location. The community is invited to explore various genres and share their work, with the only restriction being the progressively lower word count limit. The initiative also includes a call to support the platform by purchasing a coffee for the team, emphasizing the collective effort in building a special community.

Opinions

  • The year has been challenging, but there is still much to celebrate, especially within the writing community.
  • The community has experienced growth, with new editors, writers, and stories, and plans to continue this trajectory into the next year.
  • The word count challenge is brought back due to popular demand, indicating its past success and the community's enthusiasm for structured writing prompts.
  • The challenge is designed to be fun and engaging, with the decreasing word count aiming to make the writing process both easier and more challenging each week.
  • The website values the contributions of its community members and acknowledges the collective effort in making the platform a supportive space for writers.
  • There is an open invitation for writers to interpret the prompts freely and to write about celebratory times, whether they are annual events or unique, once-in-a-lifetime moments.
  • The website expresses gratitude to its community and encourages support through a "buy us a coffee" initiative, highlighting the collaborative nature of the platform's achievements.

December Theme: Time to Celebrate

It’s the final countdown of 2021. Word Counts are back!

It’s been a long, hard year.

On the back of another long, hard year.

And next year may be another effing long year.

The 2020s may be called the Grinding 20s if things don’t let up at some point.

But life goes on and that’s something to celebrate

You know what, there’s plenty to celebrate, as days, weeks and months blurs and whoosh by there's good stuff to take notice of, to smile at, and enjoy.

There’s a lot to celebrate.

We’ve had an exceptional year with you. We’ve had contests, prompts, new editors, so many new writers, tons of great fresh stories. And we plan on building and growing next year too.

We wanted to end this month with a bang, surprise surprise, that’s how this month usually ends.

We want this month to be fun

The challenges are simple, and the prompts are open to your interpretation.

We’re bringing back, by popular demand (on Twitter) our fond tradition of strict word counts and the weekly countdown to push you a little.

And since there are five Fridays, we’ll count down from 500.

  • First week, you send us a 500 word story. On the dot.
  • And every week after that, we’ll trim a hundred from our quota.
  • It’ll get easier, quicker and harder all at the same time.

It’ll be a mad dash to the end of the year.

Everyone’s busy and there’s family and parties and a bunch of stuff going on. If you’re up north it’s getting chilly, if you’re down south it’s heating up.

We’ll nudge you to write of these times and moments' worth celebrating.

Times that come every year. Or moments that happen only once. The first times and the last times.

Take your characters through these moments or fictionalise your memories.

Either is fine.

Just celebrate with us

It’s a been a tough year, but a great one for us and this community. We made it and we made it better together. It’s our first full year of prompts, growth and fun.

So let’s celebrate the good times together.

We want to end this year having fun. So pull out the stops and celebrate. Write whatever genre you want. There're no restrictions there.

The only limit this month and every week is the decreasing word count.

We set the target, and you nail it.

If you found this was helpful, awesome, inspiring or helped you as a writer, please consider buying us a coffee.

We’re building something special.
